Remote work salaries comparable to US management positions
Specific Inquiry: When people say Digital Nomad/ Remote work. What jobs pay to a comparable US Management Position. I am trying to see the market out there. Most companies, mine included have forced a back to office policy of 5 days a week. I'm curious, do you find remote work pays the equivalent salary or do you find it pays a little less , but you will take it because of the freedom. I'm curious about the market out there.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion focuses on the salary expectations of remote work compared to management positions in the US. It highlights that most digital nomads in Thailand work for non-Thai companies, usually from their home countries, and thus receive salaries that are often lower than those in the US but can be sufficient due to the lower cost of living in Thailand. Participants noted that while remote jobs can offer flexibility, they often come with reduced salaries, and many suggest that for comparable US positions, companies might pay about 10% less. The conversation emphasizes the importance of considering job markets based on skill sets and location.
I definitely am earning less to work remote. I work for a major international company in mid-level management and earn what is barely above minimum wage in the city I live in. Most employees I work with are living in the southern US, not in big cities, or the Midwest (same-not in big cities). We are nearly 100% remote and I have been with them since 2021. I lose $ to have the flexibility (due to caregiver responsibilities). However, I don't pay for gas/auto expense or for things like clothes for work, make-up/hair care etc, and food on the go. I also can and do use my breaks to walk on my treadmill (no gym & am healthier).
In many cases the remote jobs don't pay enough to live comfortably in the US but that same ammount is more than enough income other areas. I teach English online, part time. I would have to hustle hard to make enough to live in the USA but here a little bit of money goes a long way. A friend of mine does customer service for a US online company but lives in the Philippines. What would be a poverty wage in the US gives him a very comfortable life there
The market for you is most likely in your home country using your existing skill set. You'll find much more useful information searching the job boards there than you will asking on here. Personally if I were still working I'd be looking for a salary to match my skills whether it was office based or remote.
If you're talking about salaries with the same, or comparable, international company. We'd pay less, how much less depending on the position. Good deal for us, as long as the person is good and productive, we can save on office and other expenses while paying 10% less (+/- ) because there are trade offs with collaboration and direct communication.
So it’s not usually explained in detail but most nomads work for a company or client in their home country. That’s the only way to enjoy the cost of living difference between home and Thailand. Earn money back home, spend it here.
I live in Asia and work remotely. Can earn about $5k/month as a digital nomad but I have 8yrs of experience :) really depends what kind of skill you have and how you sell yourself.
Very few "remote workers" or "digital nomads" in Thailand have work or contracts with Thai companies. It rarely happens. Those who base themselves in Thailand have usually procured the work in their home countries. There is virtually no market here as such. The few digital nomads I have encountered here who have regular work are working remotely for overseas based companies - the work having been secured before they moved to Thailand.
