Seems crazy to exchange two times, and loose money on exchange rates and fees two times.. Just take your ZAR with you and exchange in the arrival airport to baht..

Friend of mine changed from a METV to extension of stay based of being over 50 in Buengkan immigration about 6 month ago, he did not have to leave the country.

how can you be overstaing if you used a thai passport to enter? A thai dont need visa to Thailand, correct?
Mikkel *******
Maybe depends on the particular immigration office. I had a friend coming in on a METV last winter, and got a years extension based on being over 50 directly from that in the local immigration office.

I too just carry the thai DL, and in my phone i keep my wife and close family listed as ICE (should be internationally recognized as "in case of emergency) before their name.

should not matter if its an old passport number, if you wound up in an accident they could ID you through it anyway and contact embassy or what not.

I guess you answered me about the 10.000 on VE.. I deleted straight after writing because it felt off ;)

10.000$ ?? That doesn't sound correct. That's more than 320.000 baht.. normally its 20.000

I think if they had to, they would not have a problem meeting the financial requirements individually.. But if they can avoid transferring 2x 800.000 to Thailand I think they would prefer that.. And as I understand from Robert Lagas answers, that is possible with the dependent extension based on extension based on over 50.
