Hey guys!

I'm going to the immigration office tomorrow (in Bkk) to get my ED visa (I have everything with me of course), but i'm just wondering something: how long will it take to get the visa?

Because I'm suppose to leave tomorrow in the afternoon to Phuket, and I have a flight back to Bkk on December 28th and I need my passport for that flight...

I can definitely stay in Bkk for a few more days, but I really hope to get my passport and my visa as soon as possible :)

Thank you for your answer :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The processing time for an ED visa at the Bangkok immigration office varies depending on the specific situation and the completeness of the paperwork. Some users reported spending a little over an hour at the office, while others mentioned longer waits. Generally, it's suggested that if all documents are in order, you might wait less than 30 minutes, but it might take up to 2 business days to retrieve the visa.

Just so you know, we arrived at 9am at the immigration office, at 9:30am we got the Queue ticket (I had to take pictures and to fil the paper so it took 30 minutes), and we waited 30 minutes + 10 minutes to give the papers and get the appointment so we spent a little bit more than a hour at immigration office.

Obviously it’s because it was a change of visa and there was not so people (and we got there early).

We have to come back in 16 days to retrieve the visa and they gave me back my passport so all good I can take that flight 😀

Thank you guys 🙂

yes, they stop giving queue numbers at 3:30, but they will serve everyone that is there with a queue number, some days it goes until 8 PM.

I thought if you were in the queue you would get served that day. So it could be possible.

Not really 6pm, they close at 4.30pm

How long does it take, less than 30 minutes if you have all the documents in order. If you like to know how long you have to wait in the queue, I will say sorry my crystal ball is out of order for today.
Robert *******
Yeah, for real. somehow Immigration understand that you must be able to show your passport any time at Police check points. So the Immigration Office does not take passport in hold for weeks.

really??? Oh perfect then :D Thank you!

They do not hold your passport, they only hold your documents and tell you to come back on a specific date to get the visa stamped in.

It is possible to convert a Visa Exempt Entry or a Tourist Visa at Bangkok Immigration to a Non Immigrant ED visa. Sorry to disappoint you guys.

Don't worry about it. It's one of those rules that's not commonly known, and I still don't know if it's still occurring.

@Benj****
okay.. If that's true.. then forget what I said ;) did not know that. Thought that was only for extension and retirement/marriage non-o

@Mikkel ******
I think you can actually. If there are 21 days or more remaining on the existing visa, I believe immigration in Bangkok can change it without having to leave the country.
Mikkel *******
You can't get the initial ED visa inside the country.

@Inès ************
are you talking about an extension of an original 90 day ED visa? That would make more sense.
