TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the process of switching from a retirement visa to a marriage visa in Thailand. They are particularly concerned about the timing of when their current retirement visa will be cancelled, either at the time of application for the marriage visa or after it has been approved. Comments provide insight into the nature of these visas, emphasizing that the retirement visa is considered an Extension of Stay rather than a visa itself, and explain that the cancellation of the existing extension occurs when the new application for the marriage extension is submitted.

Trying to explain: If you had a Non Immigrant O visa (O is other) and you applied for an Extension of Stay at an Immigration Office you can apply every year for a NEW Extension of Stay as long as you meet the requirements, this could be based on being over 50 years (called by many and even stamped in the passport "retirement") or based on being married with a Thai National (called by many and sometimes stamped in the passport "marriage or Thai Wife"). These are NOT a visa, but Extension of Stay as mentioned in the second line of the stamp. You can change between the reasons based for Extensions of Stay as long as the reason is covered by the initial old Non Immigrant O visa. It could be over 50 years for 1 year, next year married and than change back to being over 50 years, but you must meet the requirements for the reason you choose. Be aware that if you change to being married the Extension of Stay is valid as long you are officially married, a divorce will end this Extension of Stay at the day of divorce.

As the retirement visa as the marriage visa does not exist it is hard to give an advice. Please show a picture without any personal details of your current permitted to stay inside Thailand stamped in your passport.

Your Extension of Stay will be cancelled at the moment they put in the new stamp under consideration.

I guess you went every year to the Immigration Office and get a new big stamp with the text Extension of Stay is permitted up to ../../.. (1 year later). You can visit Immigration 30 days before this date to apply for a new Extension of Stay based on marriage with a Thai National. If all your documents are in order they will give you a new stamp Extension is under consideration until ../../.. which will be 30 days. On the last day of these 30 days you visit Immigration again and get the remaining 11 months stamped in your passport.

It sounds like what you have is an extension of stay based on being over 50. You go every year to immigration and ask for a one year extension?

If that's what you're doing, you don't have a visa anymore. You have an extension of stay.

When you apply for the extension based on marriage, they will check all documents before accepting the application. Only if everything is in order they will accept it.

They will then cancel your existing extension, and stamp in the first month (under consideration) of your extension based on marriage. After 30 days you come back to get the rest of that yearly extension stamped in (11 months.. totalling 12 months).

It's very rare that it would get denied in that consideration period. I have personally never heard of it. If your marriage is genuine, and you can meet the requirements for the marriage extension you are good.
