In most countries you can only apply for the DTV online. They're actually processed by an outsourcing company called VFS in their Bangkok offices on behalf of the Thai Government.

I do not understand why so much documentation refers to the Embassy.

How long are DTV approvals taking now?

I got mine around 18 months ago and it took under a week then.

Your profile says you are in the UK. Assuming you have a valid UK passport you can buy a one way ticket to any international Thai airport. Almost any airline operating flights into Thailand will sell it to you. I buy these a couple of times a year.

To enter Thailand legally you also have to buy a ticket out of Thailand. That can be back home, or to a different country. It can be by land, sea or air.

Most airlines will check you have this before letting you board your flight to Thailand.

You can buy an "Onward Ticket" for entry and visa purposes for around £10 from several websites.

interesting. Do you have a link to the definition of "civil service type roles"? I never knew that exemption.

I have a couple of public sector (BBC and Uni Lecturer pension) pensions that might fit into it.

John Lawrence the Dual Tax Agreement between UK and Thailand was put into place in 1981. It's been modified by the Multilateral Instrument that the UK signed in 2018 and Thailand signed in 2022 and this came into effect between the 2 countries for Personal. Taxes on 4 April 2023.

Assuming you're paying tax correctly in the UK you should not also need to pay tax in Thailand.

You are supposed now to fill in a Thai tax return but the Dual Tax Agreement between UK and Thailand means you only pay the UK tax.
