Can I apply for a DTV visa online instead of at an embassy in the US?

Hi all! I'm planning on getting a DTV visa for muay thai.

I just went to the Thai consolate in Los Angeles, and they told me they don't handle anything to do with visas, and that I need to do it online.

Everything I've read and watched says you have to do it at an embassy. So what gives? Can I really apply for the DTV online?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a DTV visa online. The Thai government has shifted to an online application system for all visa types, including the DTV visa. Although earlier guidelines may have advised applying at an embassy, the current process allows you to complete your application from home through the official Thai eVisa website. It's advisable to not use agent sites and to ensure you have all required documents to avoid application denial.

In most countries you can only apply for the DTV online. They're actually processed by an outsourcing company called VFS in their Bangkok offices on behalf of the Thai Government.

I do not understand why so much documentation refers to the Embassy.

Yes you can! I almost bought a 200 METV visa. But I don’t see the benefit when I can do the normal visa exempt 60+30 and do a border run and do it again? Right?

Some resources can be confusing...

They started accepting DTV applications *only* online via the Thai immigration website. You can apply from the comfort of your own home.

If you would like support, feel free to message me with questions.

in the USA, and specifically for the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles, the Thai Embassy and Thai Consulates in the USA have all been on the Thai eVisa Website system for all Thai E–Visa applications and issuance for almost 5 full years now (September 2021)

Everything you read and watched? Come on now, if you've done even the most basic research you would know that EVERYTHING is done online now and had been that way for several years. So...go to the website Brandon mentioned and apply.

if you meet the criteria and have the right documents you won't get denied. When you start the application process all that information will be available to you, good luck πŸ‘ πŸ˜€

If you get denied you lose your application fee, that's all. You can try to apply again. I know a guy got it on his third attempt

The embassy never reveals the reason for rejection. He tried the usual BS methods of language course and cooking course, so I'd say they saw through his application

All Thai visas in the US have been online for a few years now. You still apply to a specific embassy, but you apply to them online.

thank you! Apparently every video I watched was made my British or Europeans or Australians. They all mentioned leaving Thailand and finding an embassy.

Also the gym I'm using only mentioned embassies. Thank you!

yes, they have to leave Thailand as you cannot apply online through an embassy unless you're outside of Thailand and inside the jurisdiction of that embassy.
