You're not on a [Covid tourist visa]. The instrument that allows you to stay in thailand is [An extension of stay based on not being unable to travel due to Covid-19] (Covid Extension)
The key phrase there is EXTENSION OF STAY {not shouting, just highlighting}
For foreigners staying in Thailand for a period longer than 90 consecutive days holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or Extension of Stay, you are required by Thai Immigration to report the present address every 90 days. Source =
quite rightly states that doing a 90 day report doesn't make sense if you have to visit every 60 days to apply for a further extension. Of course it doesn't make sense, but it's the law, so we can try and comply or it's going to keep costing us 2000thb every time we don't. People have to accept that the 90 day reporting requirement and the consecutive 60 day extensions are different entities. In fact, If you're receiving an extension every 60 days, you can't do your 90 day report at the same time. you'll be at least 15 days too early (can do 90 day report 15 days before or up to 7 days after due date).
The Covid Extension is a temporary measure that will be here 'till the end of the month, end of year or whenever....who knows. The extension of stay is a permanent fixture at least for now and I don't see the Thai gov dissolving this law when they may be concentrating on other matters.
Correction... you didn't say they make them up.. someone else said that... apologies. Its the way the different Offices interpret the law that causes issues.
you have to do 90 day reports if you've been in Thailand over 90 days. That's the law. The "covid extension" is a temporary measure that doesn't change the requirement to report every 90days. Samui immigration is probably the most accommodating immigration office that I have had experience with.
Get the 60 day TV the extend for 30 days. Gets you up to 90 days. Visa exemption (not visa on arrival) is another good option.
Nobody knows how long yhe 60 day extension due to being unable to fly will continue for. My Guess is it will remain for as long as the emergency decree will be in place. Immigration ared that dumb and they know what's going on, but it seems to be working OK at yhe moment. I have read some reports that immigration officials have been asking some applicants what their exit strategy is 🤷♂️. Anyhow, once here maybe look for an Ed visa or volunteer visa.
