What are the best visa options for staying in Thailand for six months from July 15th?

Hi everyone

I’m planning to come to Thailand around July 15th and would love to stay for six months or as long as possible otherwise.

I’m thinking of getting a 60 day TR tourist visa or a 45 day visa on arrival, then extend for 30 days and then just hope that the government will continue to issue the 60 day emergency COVID extension (even after the current July deadline, is it possible?) Otherwise I thought that maybe by then another SEA country will open up so I’ll be able to move there.

Anyone has any advice or a better solution?

Thanks a lot to everyone sharing their thoughts and to the admins and moderators, this group is much more helpful than the embassies that I contacted.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user plans to travel to Thailand around July 15th and stay for six months. They are considering applying for a 60-day tourist visa (TR) or a 45-day visa on arrival, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. There is uncertainty regarding the continuation of the 60-day emergency COVID extension after July. Additional comments discuss alternative options, such as visa exemption and concerns about the duration of stay in light of COVID-19 policies.

I am right now dwelling on the same concern, I want to use the sandbox and arrive on the 20th of July, but I don't want to apply for a visa, I want to go there on a visa-exempt, I am going to Thailand to meet my fiance from the Philippines but how long we can stay is very important as we will marry in Thailand and return to the Philippines together, this is my ticket to get back home. I had been living with her for over 5 years before I got stuck in Australia. It looks like we can extend up to 90 days after arriving on a visa exempt, but I am wanting to stay a lot longer

I’m in Italy.

They will stop issuing the 60 day COVID extension from the end of July unless they postpone again. But nobody knows yet.

apparently you can get two 30 day extensions, I am not 100% sure on this until I clarify it with the Thai Embassy here tomorrow

you can get a 60 day tourist visa (TR) or a 45 day visa exemption and then extend for 30 days but only once.

We’ll find out at the end of this month I guess. Or do you mean they aren’t already issuing it anymore?

Get the 60 day TV the extend for 30 days. Gets you up to 90 days. Visa exemption (not visa on arrival) is another good option.

Nobody knows how long yhe 60 day extension due to being unable to fly will continue for. My Guess is it will remain for as long as the emergency decree will be in place. Immigration ared that dumb and they know what's going on, but it seems to be working OK at yhe moment. I have read some reports that immigration officials have been asking some applicants what their exit strategy is 🤷‍♂️. Anyhow, once here maybe look for an Ed visa or volunteer visa.
