This was our experience yesterday at BKK airport. We had a one way flight into Bangkok as we are going travelling.
Arrived from the UK via India. No onward/return air ticket. We were asked by the IO how long we were planning to stay and when/where/how we were leaving.
We have been to Thailand twice this year already but short stays within the 60 day visa exempt period. No questions asked about number of times visiting.
We do not plan to stay longer than our visa exempt 60 days this time either but our plans are flexible. I purchased bus tickets to Vientiane and booked a refundable hotel there for two reasons:-
1. In case we needed proof we would be leaving Thailand (within the visa exempt period); and
2. In case our airline questioned us having a one way flight (Air India did question this at the boarding gate in London). They do not want to be responsible for paying in case we are deported.
The IO did not ask to see any proof of the onward travel out of Thailand. But for the sake of £7 for two of us, this was worth it for peace of mind!
There were other nationalities being carefully scrutinised by the IO who were in front of us in the queue.
Thanks for all the advice on the posts in this group. They have been very informative and helpful.
Hi all, I have a DTV and just adding my wife and son. We are traveling in Jan 26 and plan to stay for about 150 days before traveling on. Do I need to get a forwarding ticket? I’d planned on doing that near the time because we don’t know where we will be going - maybe Bali or Malaysia. Also we will need to check in every 90 days to confirm our location.
Hello, I’m new to the group and would like to ask a question, I’m Canadian and I work overseas (have for over 30 years) anyway, I work a shift of 5 weeks at work and 5 weeks off, over the next year or so I would like to take my off time (usually maximum 35 days) and come tour Thailand. My question is will I have issues coming in 3 or 4 times a year for about 30 to 35 days each time.
I will not be working at all, only traveling around and touristy stuff
We submitted a DTV application for my partner in Jakarta 10 days ago, but we haven’t received any update yet. Since I need to apply after her and we are planning to travel to Thailand within a week. Is there anything we can do to speed up the process?
Hello friends! So I have applied for a workation visa from Hanoi this Sunday evening, provided everything possible and known to me:
- financial(two accounts back home showing funds more than 500k Bhats for six months)
- professional (cover letter, gst registration certificate, screenshots of business, IT returns etc)
-location documents ( current hotel in Hanoi including the arrival stamps, boarding pass, tickets and also lease in Thailand and flights inwards to cnx)
But I made a mistake of pre-booking flights for coming Sunday i.e. 14th as I wasn't certain of applying for DTV when I planned my Hanoi trip and thought it was just a border run.
Do you have any recommendations to have the process expedited if at all any, as I ideally don't want to lose money on tickets and extending hotel here any further.. though that's my last option. I'm happy to even walk over to the embassy if it helps, though any inputs welcome. Also, anyone who applied from Hanoi recently, what was your turnaround?
Thank you and much grateful for this community 🙏☺️
Planning to apply for DTV Soft Power (Cooking) towards the end of this month (September) in Vietnam. I have the seasoned funds but currently unemployed.
Which embassy is more friendly these days, Hanoi or HCMC? My plan was to stay in Danang & Hue which fall under HCMC but if Hanoi is better I don't mind going north.
And secondly, do I have to fly from Vietnam to Thailand to 'activate' it, or does it not matter? I need to be in Japan early November so I was planning to fly back to Bangkok from there.
