If he so wishes to get married in Thailand in the future, he can change from a retirement visa to a marriage visa. He then only needs 400k in his bank.
I have been here almost 3 years and I have had to provide passport copies every time on my 90 day report. They also want a copy of my 90 day visa from when I first came. Why can't there be a standard set of rules, every office wants different documents.
I understand your frustration, in my opinion I think it is the lack of training at some of the immigration offices and lack of consistency. You can ask 2 different people the same question and get 2 different answers. I dont think its a money making thing as the visas cost pennies. Thinking about it you get different answers to the same question no matter where you go.
The online reporting is a roll of the dice, sometimes it works other times it doesn't. You can always do your 90 day report in Chiang Mai if online doesn't work. A friend lives in Chaing Mai and said they very good.
Mike Dias hi Mike, best way to do it is get the land in her name, then you can lease the land for 30 years max then build the house in your name, this way you are protected for 30 years as the land and house is yours for 30 years. Get a contract lawyer to draw it up. If anything happens to the marriage you can ask her to leave. You can put the car in YOUR name.
John Belcher never heard of keeping it in for 3 months after. I am on a marriage visa so different rules. My mate is on a retirement visa and has never had to show anything after his 12 month visa has been issued, only the 2 months before.
Malcolm Whitlock you dont need to have the 800k in the bank all year, you need to have it in for a full 2 months before your next 12 month visa application or show a bank statement you have 65 thousand Baht coming to you Thai bank account every month for the last 12 months.
