I am new to the group and I am amazed at what a shambles the whole situation is !! Rules seem to change on a whim, so many complicated rules and options. I have to question the Thai government and their policies, if they don’t want foreign immigration say so, make the rules clear and transparent. Like many other countries it’s all based on money ! It’s big business! Does Thailand not want skilled experienced people to bring their expertise and knowledge to benefit the country or is it just another money making scam !! Very very sad

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the complexities and perceived chaos of Thai immigration policies, especially for new expats. One user expresses frustration over constantly changing rules and a lack of transparency from the Thai government regarding visa requirements, questioning whether Thailand truly desires skilled foreign workers. Various comments respond, contrasting experiences with other countries' visa processes, asserting the affordability of Thai visa options, and suggesting that misinformation often circulates within expat communities. Overall, users highlight the necessity of meeting visa requirements while acknowledging both the frustrations and relative simplicity of the Thai immigration system compared to other nations.

If you can not work out the quite straightforward visa types and which would suit you best then it is likely you do not have any skills or experience that Thailand is in need of. Let's face it, all you have to do from many countries is turn up and you get 60 days completely free of charge. What is difficult about that?

As an American I watched the pain andvexpensexsndvhumiliationnof my wife in process of obtaining a green card.

She was initially denied a tourist visa on 2 occasions.

Thailand is not that difficult Ana always granted me access when we visit.

America is far more difficult to navigate imo

Without looking at any comments, you seem very angry that a country would have requirements to live there. I'm guessing that you don't offer anything to Thai society that they don't already have.

I am not sure why there is so much whinging, if you are a tourist you arrive visa exempt with a return ticket. If you want to stay longer then you apply for the appropriate visa and hopefully meet the requirements. These rules are probably similar to what someone would need to comply with if they were visiting your country.

Seems you are new to being a foreigner anywhere!!

I’ve been an expat for years in china, over 20yrs in Czech Republic- nothing is easy, you gotta jump through the hoops to satisfy the requirements.

Its not difficult, you just got to want it.

If you don’t meet the requirements, its simple, you shouldn’t be there.

No need to be bitter about the country, you just need to better yourself to meet the requirements.

I’ve managed to apply for a visa ok and nothing really complicated about applying for the extension either, I’m not the brightest person so you must be really thick to find it so bad 😂 as others have said with your anger you don’t belong in a Buddhist country it’s not for you 🙏😂🤣

If you're really talking about using knowledge and skills here then you want to deal with bureau of investment, not immigration. Very few visas allow you to work here and it's very restrictive. Rules aren't complicated, but they are tedious. Thai officials love paper and rubber stamps. Kind of just have to get used to it

The rules have always been clear, they’ve just started enforcing them properly.

You wouldn’t expect France to let you get away with multiple visa runs bouncing in and out of the country, why should Thailand?

Go try it in Japan! Or China! 😂😂😂😂😂

Michael, this is THEIR country, please remember that. You will be Very Frustrated coming here with the attitude that they need to be transparent. They have the right to deny whoever they want. They don’t want or need any of the problems that Entitled Foreigners think they deserve. I would do A LOT more research before moving to any country as you’ll probably be one of the statistics that end up hating it and moving back.

Try Australia or New Zealand or the USA. THAILAND owes nobody anything, least of all tourists. They dont ask you to go there. Being allowed in is a privilege.

I tend to agree with Michael the thai government go to bed each night and dream up how to change the rules, been here now for 10 years and they continue to make it difficult for farang.too many in and outs now? Hitting tourists who frequent here and spend money?on the other hand allowed 2.5 million Indians in last year? Oh that will boost economy?? Not.only place they spend cash is in Indian night clubs in walking street? Imagine the aroma in there? Mate of mine brings 40 golf players to hua hin been doing this for many years.stays 29 days.sometimes every 2 months how will he get on?

tell me which country offers simple and easier visa options than Thailand?? I have been in many countries before to retire, but Thailand visa options are the most simples and easiest for real retirees. And, Thailand is not heaven but as much as you are humble and nice with good enough money, you can really enjoy your rest of times in Thailand.

Rules do change a bit but these Facebook groups also spread alot of misinformation. Always take advice on here from the mods or the regular commenters that are usually up to date with rule changes etc but in my opinion it’s fairly straight forward. Meet the requirements for a visa or non exempt and all is good

Like you say, you are new to the group. The Immigration rules are in place but haven’t always been fully enforced in the past. Now with the advent and implementation of digital visas and for other reasons, things are getting stricter and being enforced more rigorously to comply with the rules. If you’d prefer to see stricter enforcement you could attempt to get a job in China or Russia where your expertise and knowledge might be more appreciated?

What is very very sad is you’re deluded opinion of your own worth and self importance. Get a life and grow up.

I understand your frustration, in my opinion I think it is the lack of training at some of the immigration offices and lack of consistency. You can ask 2 different people the same question and get 2 different answers. I dont think its a money making thing as the visas cost pennies. Thinking about it you get different answers to the same question no matter where you go.

It's what you get from never being colonized, yea rules change and sometimes from office to office, but if you want to live here as I do, just follow them otherwise font come and live here. Don't agree its all about money for the average expat here, but yes they encourage foreign investment like all countries do. As one comment said drink beer play pool and swim every day if you wish.

I don't know what problems you've run into, I applied and was granted a visa in under 3 weeks.

It really sounds like the issue might be more about your expectations. Generally I'd recommend checking out your own country's visa process to set a realistic basis for expectations.

As to money, it was a few hundred dollars max and that included the more costly multi entry visa.

I'm genuinely sorry that you are having difficulty, the only advice I can give is find a visa agent who can walk you through each option you qualify for, will do much of the actual work in securing the visa, and will best be able to expedite it if needed.

Have you ever tried applying for a visa for the UK? Thailand is very simple in comparison.

Which rules are you talking about, as I don't think any rules have changed for many years for things like non-O visas.
