Why does Thai immigration require photocopies for the 90-day reporting?

Iโ€™ve just done my 90 day report at Phetchaburi immigration and there is a notice which the immigration officer brought to my attention.

At my next reporting I must bring photocopies of the first page last page and last extension page to do the 90 day reporting.

Not sure why they need this when we already present the passport with everything in it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience regarding new photocopy requirements for the 90-day reporting at Phetchaburi immigration. They must provide copies of the first page, last page, and last extension page of their passport. Other community members discuss similar experiences with differing requirements at various immigration offices, express frustrations regarding paperwork, and speculate on the motives behind these demands, with some suggesting it reflects a desire for control over foreigners living in Thailand.

My office is next door to immigration. I buy coffee and lunch often for the officers. Never ever had a problem..even when I was late for 90 day reporting, they laughed and said, you Australians are all the same..always late . We all laughed he stamped my passport and off I went

In my personal feeling only. I feel, Thai immigration does not like foreigners living in Thailand. So they want us to leave Thailand. or coming only for tourism and stay short and spend huge money. Therefore, Immigration officers want us to work more and make things difficult. they need this today, and tomorrow another on, and next day, do not ask at all. like this. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Young That is correct and you are making them work just like any government jail or agencies that do not want to see you. That is also true with NHS of England

yes but complete control does not mean that they need non sense papers and requirements that never asked before. ๐Ÿ˜‚but Thailand is not sole country that immigration does like this. Many countries immigrations are similar.

I have been here almost 3 years and I have had to provide passport copies every time on my 90 day report. They also want a copy of my 90 day visa from when I first came. Why can't there be a standard set of rules, every office wants different documents.
