I applied online from the U.S. for a 90 day non O visa, after 12 days received this. I do meet and can show more than the monthly income requirement. Don’t have the $ 25,000. What are my options in this situation. Thanks
Answer summary
A user applied online for a 90-day Non-O visa from the U.S. but lacks the required 800,000 Baht in their bank account, despite meeting income specifications. The discussion reveals that to qualify for this visa, applicants need to either demonstrate 800,000 Baht in their Thai bank account or show a steady income of at least 65,000 Baht per month over the last three months. A variety of suggestions are offered, including consulting with a visa agent for assistance, considering a different visa type (like the NON-OA), or using alternative methods like showing proof of retirement accounts. Multiple users note the importance of understanding current visa regulations, as requirements have changed over time, and emphasize the significance of financial documentation.

I can't think of a good reason for a US Citizen needing a non-o visa for a 90-day visit. Come to Thailand without a visa and stay for 60-days. As you get near the end of 60-days apply for a 30-day extension. I have never seen an extension denied. My answer applies if you can't demonstrate the financial resources required.
Brandon ************

Karl Diekman He didn't say a 90-day visit. He said a 90-day visa. The Non-O is a 90-day visa, and then you apply for the 1-year extension to live in Thailand.

Thank you for the feedback, but I am quite clear about what he said. What he didn't say is that he wanted to apply for a i-year extension. I generally don't assume what people have on their mind. My bigger point was if you can't afford the price of admission try another path.

You're from USA correct you get 60 fays no visa need if you really need 90 before the 60 days are up fly to Vietnam or Singapore or anywhere close for a few days not just a 1 day turn around and when you return you get another 60 days

If you don't have the 800k equivalent you'll be denied. You can't do the income method the 1st year, has to be the 800k.

The UK required me to show 3 months' bank statements, and the income each month must be at least the equivalent of 65,000 baht or in my case, 40,000 baht, as the Non O was based on visiting Thai family (marriage)

Sean Bright . . did you check the embassy/consulate website lately? The requirement for the Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa application is either proof of income of a minimum of $2500 USD, or $25,000 USD in your bank account. The income proof used to be $2000 USD before, a couple of months ago all US based Thai consulates and the Washington DC embassy changed it to $2500 USD. Maybe your incme was less, so they now ask you for the deposit proof instead

It's been a requirement for a long time. I retired to Thailand on a O-visa 13 years ago and had to prove my income before getting it and then once in Thailand I had to deposit 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank before I could get the retirement visa and now have to keep that in the bank all the time. If you don't meet the requirements then you can't get the visa it's as simple as that.

Malcolm Whitlock you dont need to have the 800k in the bank all year, you need to have it in for a full 2 months before your next 12 month visa application or show a bank statement you have 65 thousand Baht coming to you Thai bank account every month for the last 12 months.
John *********
John *********
Bill Harden Don’t forget you have to keep the 800,000 in for 3 months after your visa approval as well as the 2 months before you apply. Simply it means you have to keep 800,000 in for 5 months and can then go down to 400,000 for the other 7 months.
Malcolm **********
Malcolm **********
Bill Harden They changed the rules about 6 or 7 years ago. It used to be you had to have the money in the bank 2 months before your first application and 3 months before a renewal then you could take it all out immediately after. Then it was changed so that you had too keep it in for 3 months after as well but could remove it all after that but the latest is that you have to have 800k in for 3 months before, keep it in for 3 months after (this is why the Bangkok Bank is freezing some accounts used for the visa application for 3 months after issuing the renewal letter) then you have to maintain at least 400k for the rest of the year. I just keep 800k in a separate account permently and think of it as a emergency backup. This is also why they now need a 12 month bank statment as well as the bank book copy, to prove that you have maintained the right amount for the full 12 months. I am just a person living in Thailand on a retirement visa and my comments are just that, comments of what I have been told by the Immigration Office and things I have picked up in the news and on expat forums so don't think I am qualified to give advice, I'm just relaying what I 'know'.
Bill ********
Bill ********
John Belcher never heard of keeping it in for 3 months after. I am on a marriage visa so different rules. My mate is on a retirement visa and has never had to show anything after his 12 month visa has been issued, only the 2 months before.

Been here on non- O ( visa 21 years. Still have the 25K in the Thai bank, just sitting there. The interest rate sucks, and the annual fee eats most of it, but the account serves its purpose for continued annual visa extensions.
Steve ********

Malcolm Whitlock Well I have had a different experience. I moved to Thailand over 14 years ago, on a multiple entry, Non-Immigrant ‘O’ visa. I did show proof of finances, when I applied for the visa, although I can’t remember how much that was. When I extended my visa ‘for the purpose of retirement’, 12 months later, as I have done annually ever since, I did it on grounds of income, NOT 800K in the bank. So that is/was not the only way and this remains the same.
Malcolm **********
Malcolm **********
Yes, that's another way to do it.

If you don’t have 800k for in complete 6 month of Application (initial visa, extension stay) it might be better to change to OA, Main difference is : no 800k needed, but a Health insurance valid for one year is required.
Malcolm **********
Malcolm **********
Burkhard Herwig Be aware that the health insurance requirement will also apply to all renewals and it has to be with a Thai company so can work out to be a bigger problem/cost than keeping the money in a Thai bank.

Same happened to me. I can only download I pdf monthly bank statement at a time. The application only allows I file download. However I learnt you can merge 3 pdf files. If you have the right pdf account you can do it but there are other free apps on line.

So download last 3 monthly bank statements. Insert into the 'merge app'. You have 1 pdf file showing last 3 months statements to insert into your application.

In this day and age how do they not have add extra files to send. Most basic computer thing today. Almost every Institute in the world has add additional files upload. This has been a problem for many people over the years complaining and they can't even do the most basic things. But Thailand wants to be seen as an advanced technology country. What a joke. Should hire a form from Singapore to revamp their entire system

third world service, simple as that. I just purchases another house in the states for investment thru navy federal, no issue single PDF files. They understand they work for their customer. Difference between first class and no customer service. There is simple software to compress on there end. You can defend all you want. This doesn't happen with Japan because they are world class. And I doubtmost are sending 15 files. Thailand just keeps falling behind in every aspect.

When I applied for my 90 day, non-O visa back in October I showed equivalent of ฿800,000 in my USA account. They came back and asked me to show proof of ฿65,000 in income over the last three months.

It actually took me a while to figure out what they were talking about because of the language barrier and because it wasn’t listed as a requirement on the application. But that’s what they wanted. so fortunately I was able to provide that.

Leeann Michelle I have the feeling sooner or later the trick through an agent to provide the 800l tb requirement will end

Government is tightening and enforcing the rules to avoid visa based on un-proper documents.

It might well be that the existence of some agencies will be questionable

True that TIT and brown envelopes flows around but the 800k isn't much avoidable

I don't think it is "either or" (monthly income above 65k / 800k deposit) but income AND deposit.

From day 1 and the deposit has to be there at all times, since it's checked yearly....

(In pure theory you might not have the 800k between month 4 and month 8 of the year, not a big advantage)

Because he intends to apply for a 12 months extension when in Thailand, which does have the 800,000 requirement. So it makes sense for them to ask for it up front, and avoid another agent putting the money in, situation. Maybe, just my best thought.
