I was actually sternly warned of this possibility when I had an ED visa from my agent. But I was doing Cambodian boarder runs with visa companies so I was never subjected to it.
I just came through BKK too. They took me in the back and asked me to demonstrate a spinning back kick. I had to stretch first but after I did it they stamped me in for another 180 days.
I mean once you pay the 10k in person you have to wait about 10 days to get your appointment. (But it could be faster or longer just depending on the amount of people waiting for an appointment.)
