It may not end. Thing is, you won’t know until a day or so before it was set to run out. They did the same mess with the covid extensions. There is no reliable planning in Thailand. TiT. My guess is that it will be extended on short notice.

The question makes more sense then some comments here would suggest. What if you have a foreign company but want to work for that company while in Thailand (for Thai customers)? Would you really need to open a separate Thai entity (or representative office) for that? Maybe just get a business visa (to conduct business in Thailand).

The easiest would be the one in your home country / country of residence. Get an e-visa from there and save yourself the hassle. Can be done fully remotely (from everywhere in the world).

So, many people told you what it is. And it is what it is. Agreed though, that it is another BS requirement to buy a re-entry permit.

Actually, there is three: 1927, 1949 and 1968 - all with varying participating / ratifying countries. And in most countries only applicable for a certain amount of time per stay. Google for details.

So, I take it from the comments so far, that there isn’t a shortcut / agency, really?

Yes. If you are on a Non Immigrant Visa the subsequent ones are 5 years.

Every 2 years. And every 2 years I need a ton of documents - the most annoying one of which that damn residence certificate that does nothing but write the obvious in exchange for tea money.
