I'm from Ohio. I did all visas through DC embassy. If you're only planning up to 60 months here in Thailand, then do METV but you will have to border bounce every 90 days after your 60 day entry with 30 day extension or do 90 tourist visa and change over to non O with year extension and multiple re-entry for 20k baht without funds sitting in low interest acct. U can set up bank account on your own or agent can do for 1,500- 2k baht. For me non ao is more bs than it's worth. Non o is simple without all the medical, criminal, insurance, etc requirements.
some schools yes, but it's not as easy as it once was. The government has cracked down on people staying long term on tourist visas and border bounces. Ed visas can still be done but often you will be tested to make sure you are truly learning and you do have to go to the classes.have you chosen a school yet? They will help you with Ed visa.
What area will you be going? There are good agents that can do it all for reasonable price. You may be stuck with agent and or $200 one time accident insurance requirement from bank. You can apply for 90 day tourist visa and convert to O retirement if that's your plan. The funds requirement can he handled through an agent as well. Like everything in thailand, a little grease makes things happen.
