Will you cancel the ED visa inside the country or there is no need? I will go to immigration here to ask about this also.

Did you go to the same immigration office they issued the visa?

I don't mind doing this but having to go to the same immigration office will be costly time and money wise.

oh I see that's good to know. In my case it's not extension AFAIK. It's a one year visa stamp. I never have to do extension for this one except doing 90 day reports online.

no it's not extension. I really have 1 year visa stamp on my passport. I only have to do 90 day reports online. So you are saying let it expire outside Thailand before flying in with the new DTV? Or just fly in with the DTV and the ED will expire by itself? I just don't know if the border or airport will know which visa to use if they are both active.

this one I got it directly from the immigration officer but I see your point. So I still need to cancel this before leaving for the DTV application right?

it's the same for all ED visa? Because before I had Thai language school Ed visa and before 1 month it's finished, I got online university Ed visa from buriram without leaving Thailand. So not sure if that officer who got me the new visa cancelled the old one without having to leave. My thought process was to go outside Thailand 1 month before my Ed expire and try to get the new DTV but if I couldn't get it for some reason, I would still have my Ed visa to fall back on and get a new one. So now I guess I have to go to buriram regardless.
