If only all the banks and immigration centres would communicate and all agree on what exactly is required life would be so much easier. I sometimes think they purposely make things complicated to make extra baht from you. They could make life so much easier for us and themselves but strangely choose not to.

That is the problem with the banks in Thailand, all branches of the same bank operate differently in different provinces, it's a recipe for disaster in my opinion. You can withdraw cash from an ATM in the province where you opened your account without a fee being charged but in any other province you get a withdrawal fee. That's taking the piss.

In Prachinburi we are asked to provide numerous photos and other things. It's all very over the top in my opinion, it's almost like they don't believe that you stay at the address you have gave them. I HATE retirement visa extension time, especially visiting the bank before immigration, nothing is straightforward with them.

@Tony McCann. I transferred pounds and Australian dollars this morning and you now get asked before making transfer if you would like a receipt as proof of foreign exchange transaction. This will give bank proof that it's came from overseas.

Graeme Drake you need 12 months of statements and a letter. If there is a way to make a mountain out of a mole hill you can rely on Bangkok bank to help you out.

I left the UK in 2007 and I have never had any issues with keeping my UK bank account open. I have also given them my addresses overseas where I have lived, and live now, so they know I'm not in the UK. I never thought that this would or could be a problem, why should it be?

Rene Ordman yes 14k will be for the yearly renewal. Starting out and using an agent to obtain a retirement visa and you'll be 40-50k if they are helping g with the 800k for bank account.

Paul Vleeshouwers are you staying more than 180 days a year in Thailand? Apparently we still need a TIN if we do regardless of having an income or not. I don't think Australian banks would be happy with that explanation, they like to grab anything they possibly can from you.
