This is aimed at UK expats. I am moving to Thailand in November. I have the sufficient funds to qualify but I have been informed that leaving UK I must close all my UK bank accounts. I have looked at expat offshore bank accounts the rates are poor and their are additional fees. Thai bank accounts having made my 800,000 deposit offer poor interest rates on other cash I might deposit. Looking for advice please.

So this is an intersting hypothetical having read the DTV requirements on the Thai embassy website.. Any insight would be appreciated:

I receive a military disability pension and as a result, am tax exempt in the U.S. If I am on a DTV, will I be tax exempt in Thailand as well if I stay over 180 days, or will I have to pay tax on my U.S. (tax free) income in Thailand?

New tax rules for expats living in Thailand.

I'd like some correct advice regarding the new tax rules implemented from Jan 1st 2024.

I believe if you spend more than 180 days in any one year in Thailand, any money you have transferred or deposit into your Thai bank account is classed as taxable income.? Also, if you have a Thai bank account and transfer, or deposit monies into it, in any one year, but do NOT spend more than 179 days in Thailand, that money is not taxable. Also if you deposit monies into your account in a year that you don't spend more than 180 days in Thailand, but the next year you stay the full year, does the money that you deposited the previous year, then become taxable? I have read that if you have income of 150,000 baht a year, this is not taxable, but if you have say 400,000baht a year income, do you pay tax on all of it, or is 150,000 baht tax threshold and anything above that you pay tax on, for example 400,000 - 150,000 = 250,000, is that the amount you would be liable to pay tax on.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, i spend about half of the year in Thailand.

I do not work in Thailand but have business in Germany and also pay income tax in Germany.

I wondering whether income tax exemption is possible in Thailand if i pay taxes in Germany and spend longer than 180 days in Thailand?

Hello, we plan to move to Thailand in the second half of June, next year, staying until the end of July 2025. We have 2 daughters that will attend school and we plan to travel outside Thailand during school breaks, we will settle down in Phuket. My question is regarding tax residency, having a Non- Immigrant O visa (retired & dependant) would it be possible to get the tax resident certification for 2024 and 2025? I know we must live in the country more than 180 days each year, but I don't know if tax authorities accept short vacation trips or they will count literally how many days we spend in Thailand during 2024 & 2025. Many thanks for your help!

Hello to everyone! First of all, I’d like to thank you for sharing your wisdom about how to visit and live in Thailand. I’ll be there at the end of the year on a 6-month multi entry (fingers crossed) and then, I’ll be back to get my retirement visa so I can live there all year. I have read about that Thai authorities will begin taxing expat residents and I have two questions about that: 1. Will this include pensioners? and 2. Does that mean that expat residents will be eligible for free national healthcare? Thanks. ‘See’ you soon.
