Hi

How much cost retirement visa without 800k in thai bank ..TIA
Answer summary
The discussion outlines the costs and requirements for obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand, particularly for those without the mandated 800,000 Thai Baht in a local bank account. Several commenters highlight alternative financial prerequisites such as a monthly income of 65,000 Baht or having 400,000 Baht if married to a Thai national. Costs of utilizing agents for the visa process range from approximately 15,000 to 60,000 Baht, depending on the services offered. The conversation also delves into the legality and implications of visa strategies that avoid the bank deposit requirement.

if you arrive in Thailand on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa, you can get a bank account opened by an agent for 5000 Baht, and the first 1-year extension with the same agent (without using your own 800,000 THB) would be something between 24,000 and 30,000 THB for the first year extension of stay permit. Follow up extensions will be less, maybe between 14,000 and 18,000 THB. . . . But in case you arrive on visa-exemption or on a tourist visa, you must expect a price for the "full package" (bank account opening, initial 80-days visa and 12-months extension) up from 60,000 THB. I have recently been quoted 80,000 THB by an agent

50,000 baht a month or more to live and eat.. Say 800,000 for visa and 300,000 for expenses to get there and get settled. Plus an agent would be of assistance. 1000 Dollars for agent and the visa fee of around 300 US dollars.

Stephen Galvin to get the initial 90 day 'retirement' Visa, using the 65k+Baht monthly income method from the start, the Embassy of your home country would need to provide an Income Affadavit, confirming your income. While I don't know what country's Embassies still do this, I know that those of Australia, USA and UK no longer do it.

If you're from one of these countries, or another that don't do the Affadavit, then (without using an Agent in Thailand to do it the illegal way) you need to have the lump sum to start with.

The best way is to do this is apply through a Thai Embassy or Consulate in your own country for a Non-O Visa based on being over 50 years old, before going to Thailand. That way, for the initial Visa, you can show proof of the equivalent of 800k+Thai Baht in your bank account in your home country. Going this route, if your Visa application is approved, you will then have 90 days from the date of approval to arrive in Thailand.

Once you arrive in Thailand, that Visa itself will see you stamped into the country for 90 days. You'll be able to open a bank account in your name only (opening a Thai bank account on any kind of tourist visa or Visa Exempt is virtually impossible now), Get yourself a Thai phone number (Thai banks will require that to open an account). Deposit 800k+Baht in your new Thai bank account. That money needs to sit in that Thai bank account for two months before you can apply for an annual Extension of Stay. For this Extension, I believe that you might have to have a minimum of 15 days left on you initial 90 day Visa. You certainly don't want to leave it until 'the last minute'.

If you wish to then use the 65k+monthly income method for your second annual Extension of Stay, you need to transfer to your Thai bank account, 12 monthly amounts of that 65k minimum each and every month before you apply for the second extension. I believe, but I'm not certain, that those monthly transfers must show, that they are International transfers. Once the requirements are met for the second annual Extension, you can move that 800k+Baht to whatever you want it to earn the higher interest.

Note: once your first Extension has been granted, the 800k+ has to remain in your Thai account for a minimum of 3 months. Then, it must not drop below 400k Baht and it must be back up at 800k+ for 2 months before you apply for your next Extension of Stay.

There's some of the steps. Other requirements for the initial Visa are on the website of the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your country (it's all done online now for Visa applications). There's more that you would need to know, but if you want to go ahead, ask questions in your own post in the group.

Agents charge HUGE amounts of money compared to what they do. They just transfer cash and take it back. Easy few click job but charge in thousands of dollars. Just do it yourself, ask a bank in your own country if you can lend the cash for two months then return it with interest or ask someone a favor like a family member. I think the agents fees are way overpriced and a rip off. 5000 baht would be a fair amount imo.

John Doty If my information is right, you need to prove these transfers on your account, for 12 months. If you have done this, and have it transferred to a Thaï bank account, then this way, would be possible. But most people, not have a bank account, before submitting, because banks refuse to open on tourist visa. Then you need help to open one, then you need help to get 800.000 on the account to get to immigration.

Note, this is all illegal.

If you are in Thailand on visa exempt - then an agent will prepare a non AO and extension for retirement - they will ‘lend ‘ you 800,000 baht for 5 minutes and significantly open you a bank account - all done for between 37,000-45,000. So initial visa is for 15 months - suggest good value for money.

Some people just do not want to put their money in Thailand. I can not say, that 800K THB is huge money. They have it enough but not in Thailand, exactly in Thai banks. I really do not understand that people like you. Thailand can kick any of foreigners out of Thailand for any of reasons or for no reason and ban to enter Thailand. You really do not know this fact?? Regardless of the funds you put in Thailand. Actually it does not matter if you follow the laws in Thailand. Thailand has no exact laws. They make a new law today, and tomorrow they change it and make another new. This is the basic law in Thailand. No one knows. What we can do? only whishing good luck.
