What should I know about getting a Non-O extension in Thailand, specifically regarding Bangkok Bank procedures?

⚠️ Heads up for Non-O Extensions at Chaeng Watthana / Bangkok Bank

Just a quick PSA for anyone heading to Chaeng Watthana for their first 1-year Non-O extension based on the bank deposit method.

I thought I had everything 100% ready:

• ✅ Online appointment booked a month ago.

• ✅ Funds seasoned since Dec 25th (hitting that 2-month mark perfectly).

• ✅ All checklist forms printed and signed.

The "simple" plan was to walk into the Bangkok Bank branch at the complex today, update/reprint the bank book, and head upstairs.

The "Surprise" Red Tape

Turns out, they couldn't reprint or verify the funds on the same day. Because of how the funds were held/coded, they have to submit a form to HQ to "unfreeze" or verify the records, which takes 3–5 business days.

The Result

I had to burn my appointment today and now have to gamble on a walk-in next week once the bank clears the paperwork.

Moral of the story: If you are counting on a bank book update at the branch on the day of your extension, go a week early to ensure your specific account doesn't require "HQ verification." Don't let a "3-5 day processing time" ruin your immigration schedule!

Graeme Drake you need 12 months of statements and a letter. If there is a way to make a mountain out of a mole hill you can rely on Bangkok bank to help you out.

Gerry Penman ok hasn't happened to me just the letter then off to immigration and yes the letter takes about 40 mins. Only need 12 months of statements when it is tax time and that takes a week from Bangkok.

Martyn Rollinson not really if you know the routine. I have been doing it for 10 years with no hassle.

You go to the bank a month or so before needed and request a 12 month statement from your last extension. Then the day before the present extension, you go to the bank and request a 6 month statement and your confirmation of account letter and also collect the 12 month statement. Job done.

This is normal for Bangkok Bank, they can only issue 6 months worth of statements in branch, longer need requested from Head Office, but nothing to do with your bank book. You can get almost 12 months worth of statements via their app, actually the current month and the previous 11 months, so this might reach back as far as the date of your previous extension if using the 800k baht method. But as well as paper statements you can request the bank sends them to you by email, for some reason they can't email to the branch, and these normally arrive around lunchtime the next day. Remember you will also need a guarantee letter from the bank, which they can issue while you wait and can usually 9up to 7 days old, plus you'll need to make a transaction on the day you visit immigration and update your bank book to show that transaction

regarding the statements, they must be on headed paper and most importantly, stamped and signed by the bank. Print off from laptop etc is not acceptable.

@Sebastian *******
if your immigration requires they are stamped you can ask the bank to stamp them for you

most Immigrations will want originals as opposed to home printouts. And some banks will not sign/stamp any documents they have not provided.
