Medical is one of the reasons you can get a DTV, but you need to speak with your doctor / hospital for more info as to whether they can provide the paperwork.

even stranger when you remember years ago they were the easiest airport to enter into if you have a problematic travel history, to the point where people were routing flights to land in CNX when Bangkok flights were cheaper or more convenient

it's OK for now but if they require interaction at a bank branch for any reason and the teller sees that the ED visa is no longer valid, they will freeze the account
