As Tom whyte asked what proof of address do you need. If UK, EU and I presume other FATF or equivalent countries normal acceptable documents for proof of address are driving licence, bank statement, utility bills (gas, water, electricity ), telephone bill (for landline only), insurance renewal document (not offer), council tax bill, current rental agreement and if private landlord their ID or any letter from a Government department. These are all document types listed as acceptable in Anti Money laundering legislation. If Thai proof of address I don’t know but Thailand also subscribes to an organisation like FATF so would the document types listed above be acceptable?

Just a few suggestions.

John Storey three months can be tourist - I go for three months, not working. Last time was visa exempt and an extension. Next time is April (I hope Qatar airspace will have reopened) and I will be applying for the multi entry tourist visa which is valid for six months but you either have to extend by 30 days or leave and reenter Thailand. It is specifically a tourist visa.

Jan Kenneth Nesland are you sure that while using visa exempt that you can still extend by 30 days after the 60. I did do exactly that on my last trip (returned home

/26) but I noticed on the immigration website now that it doesn’t seem to offer the facility to extend while using visa exemption exempt / it says you must leave after days with no mention of extending. You can extend with the 60 day single entry tourist visa and the METV after 60 days but I think visa exempt might have recently changed. Worth checking now rather than risking an extension on visa exempt not being granted. Maybe I just missed it?

Philip Rossignol but would they let you do two extensions on the METV to get the full 180 days? My plan is to get the METV and leave Thailand for a week or so in two occasions (need to get the timing right) and that resets the visa back to 60 days each time. From what I read on the embassy website this should be allowed with the METV but I don’t know if they will do two 30 day extensions ie just before 60 days extend, leave at 90 days and go to a neighbouring country , re enter after a few days, extend just before 60 days and go home before or on expiry of the 6 months (the visa activates on date of issue not arrival date so we may not actually get the full six months). I’m hoping this works.

Neil Fowell I agree with you about using Wise. I worked in an international payments area in a bank for 20 years. Swift worked very well for decades but the likes of WISE and Revolut are strong competitors . I honestly don’t know how they are able to keep their charges ultra low as being a member of SWIFT and using the SWIFT network was very expensive to the bank - not just transaction costs but fixed gists as well, that is why the fees to customer were high (a bit too expensive though)

Mike Posivak yes or get an extension- I haven’t tried METV yet but I will be applying closer to April as I think it might be the stress free option.

yes it seems to be the most stress free option although it is considerably more expensive than the single entry tourist visa and obviously arriving on visa exempt is zero cost apart from the 1900 Bhats if you want an extension (plus a visit to immigration with the required paperwork). My previous two trips were on visa exempt and an extension and then returning back to the UK for several months but next trip in April I want to visit Laos for a few days and probably Vietnam for maybe a week so I can time it in such a way that I won’t need an extension. All above board as well so I’m hoping re-entry will be straightforward.

I am in a similar position although I’ve had one visa extension by going to immigration and paying the 1900 bhat. I’ve done everything legally, no border runs, no overstays but like you I’m considering the multi entry tourist visa to save hassle. Besides I do want to stay short time in a couple of neighbouring countries so METV should work for me.
