Visa applications at the Thai embassy in DC (and consulates in the US I believe) are fully online now, so you don't need to go there in person.

Some of our staff on volunteer visas + COVID extensions have had success in getting extensions sponsored by the Ministry of Social Development (MHSDS). Worth a shot if you are truly are volunteering.

I can confirm volunteer visas are being issued and extended both, there have been no changes for legit foundations.

Just to clarify, the ban is about the place of origin for travel, not your nationality. South Africans traveling from Europe for instance are fine.

I don't think they notify your leaving, no. Any hotel is mandated to file a TM30 for you, even 200 baht hostels. You don't actually need to sleep there.
