DTV Remote Worker application approved! 🥳👏

It took 25 days total, and extra documentations. For anyone wanting a frame of reference for their own experience, I'll share mine since your stories helped me get it together:

I'm a Cambodian-American, and have never been to Thailand. I'm a character artist, and art teacher. I sell and ship my own illustrations, but I also teach and instruct and stream to students online. Been doing the latter for about 6 months now.

I applied online through the LOS ANGELES THAI EMBASSY CONSULATE (CALIFORNIA).

1) Submitted Application on Feb 8th (Sat)

- Website said $15k proof, but the app said $16k proof. I submitted $16k proof. Gave them a quick stack of screenshots of my websites in a pdf. A seller's permit for California, my investment account.

2) Requested further documents Feb 18th (Tue end of day)

- They wanted proof of $17,000 usd, Investment portfolios DO NOT count (they specifically expressed that)

- EXTENDED Business Portfolio... (I authenticated my own letter, and signed it with my logo simply saying I'm self employed😅) I spent 3 days compiling 35 pages of financials, pay stubs, remote virtual assistants proof, email marketing campaigns, screenshots, ETC stuff I do-- compressed into a PDF.

- Business Registration (Didn't have one, so I sent my FBN/DBA application. It was pending, and not fully renewed yet)

- Most recent tax return (2024 is the first year in 10, that I have not made a profit. That didn't seem to matter! as long as I had liquid assets and an operation generating income.)

3) Submitted further documentations Feb 24th (Mon morning)

4) Approval Mar 5th (Wed Noon)! 🥳

- E-Visa was emailed to me.

Let me know if you have questions. Thank you all for sharing your stories. I fly out in 3 weeks :)

Hi everyone, I am British and have lived in Thailand working remotely for many years already. I am back in the UK now and was getting ready to apply for the DTV visa from London but have recently read in here how they are requesting tax statements / returns. I don't pay tax so I would not be able o show that info - I don't make the threshold in the UK - I do have tax returns to prove this. My question is, would it be best for me to apply for the soft power instead of the workation to avoid any tax issues / would I need to actually be paying tax for this to be accepted?

Wonderful people. Could I ask for help in clarifying making money while on the DTV? I teach niche yoga classes. The parent company is in Dubai. Studios worldwide hire them, pay them in foreign currency, who then hire me to travel to teach at that location. In this case Thailand. Would that qualify me as a “remote” worker even though I would physically be teaching in Thailand? 🤔 Thanks in advance.

This is maybe a stretch, but I wonder if this is an option. Maybe the group can advise?

I’m a professional musician, performing several international tours per year (never in Thailand). This is my sole income, and my tax is paid in the UK (British citizen).

The time between tours is creative time.

This is time that I would like to spend in Thailand, and thus travel to work occasionally for a tour.

Could I be regarded as a ‘remote worker’, given that the time in Thailand is spent creatively, though the resulting income is made overseas?

Basically, I was wondering, if these professional criteria fulfill the requirements in obtaining a DTV in that regard.

It doesn’t seem entirely obvious to me.

Apologies for making an anonymous post btw.

I know it’s annoying to some, but hey-ho

Thanks 🙏🏻

Sharing my DTV approval experience as contribution to this group which helped a lot.

Workation (remote worker), Russian nationality. Provided all necessary bunch of documents combined in one PDF for every section, every PDF started with cover letter explains what and where there.

Applied in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam on February 8th (Saturday).

On February 11th (Tuesday) was requested additional documents:

- Financial evidence: amount of no less than 500,000 THB, e.g. bank statements, sponsorship letter : Please arrange your document in order.

- Other request documents: Provide a company profile that includes details about its history, vision, mission, products, and achievements.

- Other request documents: Provide details about your current role, including your CV/portfolio, and any relevant documents. Additionally, if you have work examples or supporting materials that demonstrate your experience and qualifications, it's recommended to provide.

- Other request documents: Provide the salary slips for the past 6 months, please highlight them in your transaction records.

All documents were sent originally so at the same day I sent them again just in different order.

After that my application was on pending documents check status until yesterday, February 17th, it switched to pending approval.

Today, February 18th, the visa was approved. So after additional documents request it took 5 working days to issue the visa.

Would like to thank all who shared their experiences!

Oh dear me. There is a shock. You cannot work in Thailand, even remotely, on an Elite Visa. Pretty much redundant with DTV. Unless I am missing something.[members only]

People who have gotten the WorkCation DTV when you submit all your paperwork was there ever an issue of you working previously while in the country? I'm assuming everyone who is applying for the DTV has stayed in Thailand at least a little and if you are applying for this DTV you would have been working while on some other Visa that you 'technically' shouldn't have been working on. Has anyone had an issue with this?

[DTV Hanoi Hong Kong company?]

I am a digital nomad planning to visit Vietnam for 2–3 months in April. I intend to apply for a Digital Nomad (DTV) visa for thailand from there. As I work fully online, my primary purpose is a workation. However, I am a bit confused about the required documents.

I am both a business owner and a freelancer. I own a one-person offshore company in Hong Kong, where I serve as the director. All invoices are issued through the company, and I usually take profits as dividends once or twice a year. Because of this setup, I do not have an employment contract or an employment certificate (that would be taxed in HK - dividends are not)

I could potentially provide client reviews and prepare a portfolio showcasing my work (I have completed over 200 jobs on Upwork). I could also include links to client websites, but I typically do not have formal contracts, as most of my work is conducted through Upwork/informal relations since few years + contracts would be on company not me anyway.

Could you advise on the list of documents I would need in my specific situation? I plan to apply for the visa while in Vietnam (Hanoi, specifically, as that’s where the embassy is). I shoot the embassy too - but I wonder is somebody in a similar situation dealt with it already.

PS once I will get anwser from them I will post it here :)
