The original question is about obtaining Thai nationality through marriage. The consensus from responses is that while marriage to a Thai citizen is a requirement, it does not guarantee nationality. Long-term employment in Thailand and meeting various criteria, including a points-based assessment, are necessary for citizenship. Many commenters reflect on the challenges and cultural nuances of relationships in Pattaya, often humorously critiquing the idea of marriage as a straightforward solution for citizenship.

Getting Thai nationality is impossible but what may be done is to obtain a Thai visa for life. A document similar to a passport that allows you to remain in the kingdom indefinitely. Obviously it is beneficial to have a Thai spouse but it is not a prerequisite. I have read that only 100 of these are issued per specific announced period of a year or more from each nationality. This favours nationals of certain obscure countries because obviously countries such as usa uk India etc May have way more than 100 nationals that are interested. In order to qualify you must have lived in Thailand for several years under a type of non immigrant visa and be legal status. There are some requirements of certain merits that apply for collecting points and obviously some donations to temples or local charities would help. It is a long process but it is something that you should pursue if your goal is to actually settle in Thailand permanently.
Yea think that if you want too 😂 you can get robbed for sure thou and own nothing

You got a girl in Pattaya
Wow , lucky you
I’m sure it will be a wonderful marriage when you do marry
You have to work in Thailand for a Thai company and earn at least
80,000 bhat a month for a few years plus speak and read Thai well as part of the citizenship process
But you sound very smart so it will be easy for you
You might be Prime Minister of Thailand one day ? Who knows ?

First you have to ask yourself why do you want Thai Citizenship in the first place , because the answer to that ( thing ) may be easier to get than the citizenship itself . And if you absolutely need Thai Citizenship it’s best to consult with legal professional immigration lawyers , not this group .
lawyers are a waste of money when it comes to citizenship & PR. You either meet the requirements or you don't. They're one of the extremely few things in Thailand that isn't negotiable.
I’ve heard it’s quite difficult . Still id much rather do a consultation with a professional than put my business under the scrutiny of all the jerks on this group ! THAT was my point Declan .
Not until you have built her a house her mum and dad a house and her grandparents a house ,and ten buffalo's ,then she might consider marriage with you and have to give 5 million dowry ,have to get job and work permit ,best of luck 😁

Short answer: No. Long answer: Yes, but you have to be employed in Thailand as well. If you are a holder of a Non O Visa and extensions, a work holder of a work permit for three consecutive years you can apply for citizenship. But, you must acquire 50 out of 100 points, which are allocated on things like: Income and tax, knowledge of the language, education, time on a yellow book, knowledge of Thailand, age etc. Remember, where you lack points in one category, you can make up for in others. For example, you cannot speak much Thai at all, but if you hold an advanced degree and make 100,000 plus baht a month, you have yourself like 45 points right there. If you play your cards right, it can be done, don't listen to the naysayers, and those that are laughing at you on this page....but it's not as simple as just getting married.
doesn't affect me, but thanks for actually helping this guy with some genuinely useful information. There are a lot of idiots in this group now unfortunately
