Situation:

Visa: DTV1 Workcation (remote worker)

Home country Germany with double taxation agreement

Centre of life Thailand (significantly more than 180 days per year)

According to the double taxation agreement, Thailand is entitled to income tax. However, in practice, the employer in my home country pays income tax as if I were staying in my home country, right? If I file my tax return in Thailand, I only pay the tax difference, right?

What about social security contributions? In my opinion, there is no longer an obligation to pay social security contributions (statement valid for Germany), so no such contributions are paid. At the same time, of course, I take out health insurance and pension policies myself on a private basis.

Everything correct or any objections?

Last week, I spoke with my lawyer in Bangkok. I was informed there that a 90-day report is not necessary.

I was also told that I must continue paying taxes and social security contributions in my home country. The taxes paid would be credited to me in Thailand due to the double taxation agreement between Germany and Thailand. I am a full-time employee in Germany with a German company and will be working remotely from Thailand on the DTV and stay longer than 180 days starting in December.

Is that possible?

Hello. I have an American friend living in Thailand who teaches online for a small Chinese company. She recently discovered that she will have to pay 15% Self Employment tax if she reports her earnings. Do any of you think she is foolish for reporting this? šŸ˜€

Hi everyone,

My Wife (Thai) and I are looking to open a mom and pop restaurant that we run together here in Thailand. It wouldnt be big enough to be able to add additional workers. Can anyone guide me as I am new to this venture here. I know I can own the Restaurant, but I would like us to work together. What options do I have here? Its not very big, only about 6 or 7 tables. Currently I am on a 1 year Non Immigrant Family Based Visa. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you all in advance
