DTV Extension SUCCESS at Old Town Phuket for myself and my wife (Remote Worker / Digital Nomad)
First, a Note (for the 100th time)—— there's literally no need to tell me "it would've been easier if you would've just boarded an airplane." Busy family of 5 with three young kids— it would've been more expensive, more chaotic, and potentially more risky in our case. PLUS— I care about other people having access to this process. I'm happy to do it for science so people can have a little more clarity.
if you're somehow disgruntled about my doing this extension in this way, then why are you even in the group?
Timeline—
1st Day— Went to Immigration at Old Town Phuket. See previous posts about what I brought. Went through two or three rounds of varying degrees of checks. The Immigration officer was actually very kind, and let us know we needed: a *bank statement* for the *current* month. We also needed a *more recent* remote work authorization letter than the one I originally applied for the DTV with (Even though it's my own company— me authorizing myself).
2nd Day— Waited for my bank to auto-generate a bank statement for Feb-March (brought Jan-Feb, too). Wrote myself a new auth letter. Brought it all in. Waited my turn (very quick), the officer remembered us, quckly flipped through the documents and asked: "These are the new ones, right?" (he remembered us). Took our passports, docs, and money (1900THB each) gave us a little slip of paper telling us to pick up our passports on Friday (submitted on Monday).
3rd Day — Brough paper straight to Desk 5, they brought our passports out with a receipt and an extension stamp. Did our second 90-day check-in on the spot.
Tips / Takeaways :
- We were a primary holder + 1 follower. We have a shared bank account that has at 500,000 THB in it, but not much more than that. Our statements did not show that amount going below 500k at any point. There didn't seem to be concern about needing 500k per person.
- We kept all of our documents in order from the time we initially applied for the visa in Jakarta, Indonesia. This made it very easy to apply for an extension. All I had to change were the bank statements and authorization letter.
- Applying for an extension in Phuket took longer than applying for the visa in Jakarta. We submitted the application on Monday, picked up Friday (submitted on Monday, picked up Wednesday in Jakarta).
- The officers and staff, while they didn't talk much (likely because they're very busy), were very helpful and kind. Any anxiety and pressure I felt was put on myself, and never came from the staff or officers.
Hello quick question about the 90 day report. Came in on a 60 day exemption, just converted to a 90 day non o visa at chaeng wattana on Friday. Entered Thailand about 85 days ago. From my past experiences they do the 90 days along with the issuing of the visa, but last Friday was the earthquake day. Not sure if I still need to do it or only need to start doing the 90 day report 90 days after the first visa is issued.
Thanks to the group my application went through smoothly, I found it helpful when I was planning to go to Hanoi reading the latest updates. Here's a brief run down of my process, hope it helps someone else too.
Application for soft power - Muay Thai. UK national.
- Documents from the gym.
- 6 months statements from savings account with the funds.
- Vietnam entry stamp, booking.com confirmation and a few selfies with hotel, pics of room key and payment receipt.
- Recent photo (I almost used the one from my passport but it was pretty much a year ago now that was issued and they will notice).
- Passport bio page.
- Unemployed - No income currently.
I gave 2 weeks before my intended arrival date, I was concerned about priority being shown to those with shorter arrival dates but this didn't affect my application.
I wasn't sure if they would ask for proof of my intended address in Thailand or proof of my flight in to the country. To avoid issues I booked a room in Bangkok that is free to cancel before the date. I used onward ticket and gave that flight number, in hindsight this wasn't necessary, just the address and a flight number required, but it gave me peace of mind as I wasn't sure.
I had filled out most of the application already, flew to Hanoi late Monday. First thing on Tuesday I sumbitted the finished application, manually input my details, triple checked everything. By late morning on Wednesday it change to pending approval and then Friday evening I got the email come through (4 business days total) - note; it did land in my junk mail, so be sure to check yours.
Heading back to Thailand sooner than anticipated, happy days!
I arrived to Thailand yesterday on my DTV visa very easy process had no questions by immigration a true smooth process, a lot easier than I expected so glad to be here.
Hello, I would like to know if I can do my 30 days extension at the immigration at Samut Prakan. I’ve came with a 60 days entry stamp. From France. Thanks 🙏
My passport is running out of empty pages and I've ordered a new one. What's the process for updating to the new passport on the dtv? I saw a post you can transfer the visa over but it's a digital not physical visa sticker.
Ok, so i went to Jomtien Immigration for an extension on Thursday 23rd as I was stamped in until February 1st. Then I was told to come back the following week. So today, I arrived at immigration at 10:35 and was pleased to see it wasn't busy. Paperwork checked but told to come back tomorrow that they open at 8am. Is there a requirement to go first thing in the morning?
Quick question, and please forgive me if this has been asked and answered already, but I didn't find much (or rather too much to sift through) on this websites search function.
Is it easier to apply for and receive a retirement visa in your home country or after arriving in Thailand ? I'm about a two hour drive from the Thai embassy in Los Angeles.
