so are you telling me that it is up to each individual insurance company then? I am only here 5 months a year but if I change my insurance Co it might be okay to drive for 5 months with my Irish licence and an IDP?

You could be stopped trying to do 2, but very surely will be stopped trying it 3 times in a row. All depends on your travel history and the IO you meet on arrival.

The biggest problem is that if you have an accident you are not insured after 3 months. You need a Thai licence for driving here long term
