I am trying to come to Thailand from the USA in January with my Thai wife, my 20 year old daughter, and my American mother.

My mother is 82 years old and I am hearing it may be impossible to get health insurance for her. Is there a way around the requirement she have health insurance for the retirement visa.

Could we do a living with Thai family visa? Would that receive the requirement? Is there a good around through an agent?

Thanks for your help as I am concerned we may have to abandon the whole thing.

Ive been sending the 65KTHB was required monthly (from US) in order to get the 800K bunked back after the first year - which cycles around mid-January 2025.

It sure seems like many people have written to be incoming the same day every month or very close (and once it was 5 days from that) or very likely rejected - ie I wouldn’t be able to drop the requirement of keeping 800K after a year - is that true?

Also that they want to see it as looking like a pension amount - regularly deposited and sent out - and sometimes I put it in in several deposits the same day (like 35K + 10K + 20K) simply because Wise wouldn’t allow the whole 65K to go through at once except several days later.

So that also makes me wonder about the likelihood of them making me keep the 800K in another year

In my opinion, visiting first and researching the areas, as well as inquiring about requirements, is the best approach for me.

As a retired federal employee and Veteran, reading these posts can be overwhelming and disappointing due to some providing valuable advice while others make condescending remarks towards those unfamiliar with the process.

Not everyone has 800,000 Baht to invest in a Thai account, similarly, Portugal requires $10,000. Social media is making it seem as tho this is the place to be and have people jumping on planes , moving and not doing proper researching or planning. Why, because all they are seeing is low rent, food etc which will change the more people move there.

I prefer not to rely on another country's resources by coming there with no income. I would like to hear more from some of the men/women veterans who have moved to Thailand and retired. What do you do for VA appointments etc.? What visa they have?

I am seeking an stress-free environment without depleting my monthly retirement benefits.

peace and a stress-free lifestyle

My husband and I are planning on retiring in Thailand in 3-6 years, so we are doing all our research now thru then. My question is as a married couple do we both need to have 800,000 bath in a Thai bank? Or just one of us? Can we have the 800,000 for one of us and 65,000 /mnth income for the other one of us?

Is there a way for someone to qualify for retirement visa based on a monthly 79400 THB income in lieu of depositing 800,000 into a Thai bank account?

Good morning to the community,

I have a question regarding the monthly 65000 baths transfer from abroad for retirement 1 year extension.

On thai admin website I read that it should come from pension. Is it correct and if yes how can I prove that these 65000 baths originate from my pension ?

Thks in advance

Have a nice day

Hello - I am in my 2nd month of a 90 day retirement non-O visa.

What is best practice with the Thai savings account I have the 800k balance in? If after I receive the one-year extension in December, I will still keep the balance for 3 months but would also begin transferring a min of 65000(?) Baht each month so that I can change to that proof of finances the following year?

Would it be of any benefit to start depositing to the same account now? I have been thinking to xfer monthly and use the thai bank debit card when needing cash instead of my US card which always has a fee or 220 baht +. Always being sure not to dip below the 800k of course. But it would also make the passbook a longer document with spending patterns when presenting for the extension...
