Hi I am a British passport holder, I was in Thailand in March and they stamped my passport with a 60 day visa on arrival however I heard they are reducing this down to 30 days? Does anyone know if this is correct? I’m reading conflicting advice on gov UK and Thai embassy 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British passport holder inquired whether the 60-day visa exemption stamp for Thailand would be reduced to 30 days. The community responded, confirming that the 60-day exemption remains valid, and any changes have not been officially implemented. Users clarified the difference between visa exemption and visa on arrival, emphasizing that current regulations allow for a 60-day stay for British nationals, with the option to extend for an additional 30 days at an immigration office.

Okay thank you all 🙏🏼

That's not a visa on arrival. Said so, rules haven't changed yet, so you still would get a 60-day stamp.

The current visa options are found on the website of any Thai Embassy.

No definite timescale on change yet

You mean 60 day visa exemption stamp. Nothing has changed currently and unlikely to be retrospective so like me now i can stay gor a full 60 days then extend for another 30 days at immigration and pay 1900 baht.

Given you're a Brit, you don't qualify for Visa On Arrival and VOA is 15 days

Why do so many people call it a 60 day Visa On Arrival, instead of what is called a 60 day Visa Exempt stamp, which is not a Visa at all, and is available to 93 countries now.

because the practical effect is the same and the difference lies mainly in the terminology and the underlying agreements between Thailand and countries for whom the visa exemption applies. There is no pre-approval required and it's granted at the border upon entry (luckily without payment as many visa on arrivals require).

Many other surrounding countries use "visa on arrival" so it's natural for first-timers to Thailand to assume the terminology is the same. In any event, you know exactly what OP meant by it 🤣

but it's not the same. Thailand does have a visa on arrival for other countries not elegible for the visa exemption. It costs 1,900 baht and it's good to stay in the Kingdom for up to 15 days only, without the option to extend it.

I never said it's "the same". If that's what you got from my post, then you've missed my point entirely. Essentially most people confuse familiarity with knowledge.

okay fair enough. Good point.

Please read up and get your facts straight.

As a Brit, you are visa exempt.

You arrive in Thailand and get a stamp for 60 days stay. You can go to an immigration office while you are there and extend it for a further 30 days.

NO, this has not changed.

There is talks of it but it has not happened and with the earthquake and the tariff war this will happen into the future.

Make your plans as normal and go enjoy yourself.

You have 60 days .

No change until it's published in the Royal Gazette.

Heard it where? There is currently no change to 60 day visa exempt entry ( it's not visa on arrival )

If you came in in March then you’d have been given a 60 day stamp.

They haven’t changed it back to a 30 day stamp although there is speculation that they may do so but regardless of whether they do or not is irrelevant. You have a 60 day stamp that is valid for that time. You can also extend that one time for a further 30 days at a local immigration office.
