 An agent gathers all the documents and prepares them for you. You literally give them your passport and they will do it all. Pretty simple.

Use an agent. They will do everything for you because it's not easy for you to do yourself. Most foreigners use Bank of Bangkok.

It's better to use an agency because you have to prepare many things and do a lot of running around to get those things. The agency will do everything for you. It will obviously cost some but it will save you a headache and a lot of time in the end.
