TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Thailand as a tourist can be challenging, as many banks require a long-term visa or additional documentation. Several comments suggest paying an agent to assist with the process, with prices ranging from 3,500 to 7,000 baht, specifically in areas like Pattaya. While some participants experienced difficulties even with proper documentation, others successfully opened accounts by using agents. Bangkok Bank was frequently mentioned as a possible option.

Don't open an account

Only way is to pay an agent to grease wheels at the bank absurd, but TIT 😊

Highly unlikely on a tourist visa. You need to buy a condo in full for the bank to give you an account on a tourist visa. The best way is through an agent now

Does anyone have an agents name in Pattaya…So I can open a bank account.?

Thank You so much.!

Bank accounts will not be given to short stay people.

That’s why a residence certificat can be a help, but you may have to be staying 3 month on a long stay visa ( not tourist visas ) to get the certificat.

Probably much similar to a foreigner opening a bankaccount in your homecountry.

Same with residency, most countrys does not regard you as a resident, until after 3 months.

You may need to stay on another kind of visa, than you prefer to have, to get things sorted out, before getting the long time visa to base a future life on.

They want customers with a permanent adress, who stay in Thailand most of the time, and that is what you have to convince them, that you are such a person.

every time someone asks for advice about opening a bank account, you pop up, saying it's impossible!! when it is 100% possible, when you get the assistance of an agent, there are agents in Pattaya that open bank accounts everyday, for people on short term visas, so your advice saying it's impossible is incorrect.
Henrik *****
I have my experienses, you have yours, that do not make any of them incorrect.

You have to respect other people’s opinion.

It is really hard without all the paperwork or an agent … i had just about every document under the sun including one year visa extension yet was refused by two bank branches this week for most minor things on the long term lease and surname before first name on the residence letter from immigration ; 3rd time lucky today when kept trying (and because it was nearing the closing time rushing through paperwork). On a tourist visa not possible on your own. You will need an agent.

I got mine on an METV (tourist visa). No residence certificate, just a TM30. (Though I'm sure a residence certificate would improve your odds).

Went to a shopping mall with the intention of trying all the banks, Got it on the second bank I tried. January this year.

Go to agent, pay around 7k baht, get bank account same day.
Andy **********
@Pete ******
฿7000 what does that include?? Lots of agents in Pattaya do it for ฿3500-฿4000, without buying the banks accident insurance, you just need to also pay the bank for the ATM card, and make a deposit into your newly opened account.
Brandon ************
Is it possible? In theory it's possible. But you probably won't find a bank that will do it unless you want to check 50-100 branches.

Generally you need to use an agent if you don't have a long-term visa.
Martyn ***********
Pay an agent to do it.
Patrick **********
not possible
