Plenty of flights return around 3000bt , KL, HCM. High volume routes so plenty of options for a day return

The DTV gives you much more freedom. I had a non o retirement for many years and you always have to be in country to extend and the pain of paperwork.

Plus if you travel you have to buy a multi re entry every year

DTV is 5 years of never seeing in country immigration if you don't want to and it's multiple entry so no further hassle or cost

London requires a closing balance of 500k, when I applied I put the funds in on the morning of the application and gave 3 months bank statements

No wage slips or tax returns were required

Can a DTV be activated by leaving Thailand if approved after departure?

London are usually on the ball when it comes to issuing or denying before someone's planned departure. I would be surprised if a response is not issued by Monday

not at all, as the OP said it's up to the branch. There have been reports of others getting bank accounts too. In Thailand it always good to keep trying
