TLDR : Answer Summary
The question of whether DTV visa holders need to carry 20,000 THB in cash when entering Thailand has multiple perspectives. While it is a regulation that applies to all tourists, enforcement appears to be inconsistent. Several individuals who have entered Thailand on a DTV visa report that they were never asked for the cash amount, while others confirm that the requirement exists but is rarely enforced. Despite the low likelihood of being asked, it is advisable for travelers to have proof of cash available in case it is requested. Additionally, showing proof of the DTV visa upon arrival is important for successful entry into Thailand.

Yes DTV is not consider as a long stay Visa and they can ask the proof of 20K or équivalent and they can also check all documentation of your activities even invoices or proof of activities if you are remote worker etc. Only long stay (O ED...) or business/invitation don't need, DTV is not a long stay. They don't ask each time but if one time they ask you need to have.

Always, since I first dame to Thailand I carry a disguise with me on the plane. Before landing I head to the bathroom, put on a fresh shirt and long pants and look presentable. Thais judge you by your appearance. Same goes for immigration and the banks, you get better results if you dress appropriately. I have never been asked to show money, hotel booking or return ticket in 25 years and I have entered on every possible visa type.

While the "20,000 THB in cash" rule is a real regulation for tourist visas, it is basically a tool used to screen out "beg-packers" or people living on back-to-back exemptions. Because you already passed a 500,000 THB financial check to get the DTV, Immigration considers you pre-vetted. In the real world, they save those cash checks for travelers who look like they are running out of funds instead of targeting high-tier visa holders like yourself.

Enforcement is extremely low but you should have a way to prove you have at least 20k baht in case they ask you

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

It's required, the chances of asking you are very low but still possible.

The 20k in cash rule applies to ALL TOURISTS, regardless of your visa.

It is rarely enforced, but it applies to you too.
