Is it common for Thai immigration officers to stamp passports on random pages?

Hey guys, just passed through DMK immigration and the officer decided to get a little creative. Instead of stamping page 20 which got my departure stamp from Malaysia, he flipped back and put today’s entry stamp right in the middle of page 10.

Has anyone else had their stamps jump around like this? Do the officers at the 90-day reporting or extensions mind if the pages aren't in order?
Answer summary
The original poster expressed concern about an immigration officer stamping their entry stamp on a random page in their passport instead of following the expected sequence. Many users confirmed that this practice of stamping on random pages is common across various countries, including Thailand. They noted that immigration officers typically do not care about the order of the stamps, as their information is electronically recorded. Overall, while some prefer a more organized stamping method, the general consensus is that there is no significant issue with stamps being spread out randomly throughout the passport.

If they filled in a space on a used page they kinda did ya a favor vs taking a spot on a new page. Will be ok

Thai IOs have always put stamps in completely random places. But after I got the DTV, they started at least using the space on each page efficiently, stamping right next to other stamps, instead of just diagonally in the middle of an empty page.

For my own sanity, I keep a paper-clip on the page with the most recent stamp so I can easily find it when I need it.

That's perfectly fine, and I actually prefer they do that. I'm on page 26 of my 45 page passport but there are still usage gaps in some previous pages. A lot of space is being wasted by always going to a new page.

As long as space is free it is not wasted, it only gets more difficult to find a free spot.

They have your information in the computer so the stamp is just a formality

It seems you have obsessive-compulsive disorder.

You are demanding everyone to work according to your order.

Looks like they were checking to see if you were in the country of approval for the full visa processing time. After confirmed, he move on to normal Thai entry process, which is stamping on a page that also has space for the exit stamp later.

Your exit stamp of Malaysia mostly means nothing to them more that is is an official stamp from Malaysia that you left that country in a legal order.

Immigration usually care for thai stamps

So in and out you will find then together next to each others as shown in the photo sample here

Just popped over to Cambodia, no stamps here at all. A year ago it was a full page visa then a small sticker now nothing. Same for entry and exit all digital. Saving pages is a massive bonus

Oh not even sticker now? They put on sticker when I was there a year ago but at-least Cambodian officer put the sticker in order so my inner perfectionist mind was happy. 😆

I've often asked them to stamp on a particular page, and as far as I remember they always do.

Normally when you refuse to give the Laos or Cambodian immigration their extra tea money they will stamp like that and ruin a load of space. Tossers.

yes my stamps are all over the place. a few years ago they often only stamped 2 times (entry and exit) per page. recently they put more stamps on those pages. thats my experience

Absolutely normal everywhere in the world. Immigration officers just stamp whatever random page they want. I've never known immigration officers to care about stamping pages in order. You're lucky if they even stamp the entry and exit stamps on the same page.

None of the stamps in my passport are in order, they’re all over the place

I feel like the immigration officers just pick whichever page they feel like

I didn't even know there was a "system". I've had stamps all over the place in my passport(s) for decades. Makes no difference, other than slowing down the process of checking. I guess it makes less and less difference nowadays with much of the data being electronic.

My experience is that they tend to want all the Thai stamps on same pages. Not sure why they would care where your Malaysia stamp is located
