I heard that TTB Bank at True Digital Park is opening bank accounts for DTV visa holders again.

Is this information correct?

Not USA citizens, and you must go to head office in BKK. And even then it's not guaranteed.

Someone replied to my comment on an IG post for an english news channel in thailand. they stated something along the same lines, that Thailand is considering letting DTVs open bank accounts, again, came from a random person saying they were an agent.

Guys I share with you a secret how everyone can get a thai bank account easily on DTV. Are you ready? But please dont tell anyone 🤫 (boomers move on otherwise you'll be shocked) Okay so here is the protip: Get a thai GF and use hers or tell her to open a new one for you in her name. Done. Problem solved ✅ PS. Don't transfer your millions of life savings there for obvious reasons

so your “secret” is to have someone open a bank account in their name for you? that’s not a pro tip, that’s illegal. congrats, you’ve just set up a perfect way to get the account frozen, lose your money, and get both people in trouble. genius plan 👏

yes because that is not illegal at all if i have the full permission to use it (ever heard about power of attorney?) If it gets frozen whatever. I won't have millions of bath there anyways

that’s not how it works. an account opened in someone else’s name is still their account, not yours. “permission” or “power of attorney” doesn’t magically turn it into your account or make it okay with the bank. when they see the mismatch, they freeze it. simple. but sure, keep calling it a “pro tip.”

yes but seriously who cares. People make problems where there are none. If i buy my pad krapao with that or whatever, no one will say anything. I won't buy an apartment or car with it. It's more illegal to work without a WP then using a bank account that is owned by my GF who explicitly allowed me to use it. What if its a shared bank account and my GF also can use it? 🙂

who cares” isn’t a legal argument, it’s just vibes. the bank doesn’t care if you’re buying pad krapao or a condo, they care whose name is on the account and who’s actually using it. if it’s in her name, it’s her account. “permission,” “POA,” or “she’s my GF” doesn’t magically change that.

and no, a “shared account” isn’t “she opens it and you use it.” a real joint account has both names verified by the bank. what you’re describing is exactly what KYC is designed to flag and freeze.

you can call it “no big deal,” but banks don’t. they don’t care what you buy, they care whose name is on the account and who’s actually using it.

yes this is theory. But in reality nobody cares and nobody will even notice. Technically when you do a transaction all the bank sees is that you are entering a code thats it. As long as the bank gets their fees nothing will happen 100%. In the worst case the account gets frozen because you did something against their TOS. WOW how terrible

there’s no point explaining laws to someone who proudly doesn’t care and just hunts for loopholes. you’re in another country and don’t respect the rules here anyway. this is like talking to a door. hope the account gets flagged someday and reality catches up.

ok miss "i never do something illegal". Never walked across a street on red traffic light? Never downloaded a movie? Never drove too fast? 😄 Again I'm aware of the risk and its manageable. And yes i hope it will get flagged too because its no big deal

comparing jaywalking to messing with bank rules in a foreign country is wild. but sure, keep telling yourself it’s “manageable.” good luck with that.
