yes, a tourist on a visa exempt stamp that’s staying at hotel that registers them would be covered, although they might be asked for some sort of proof of which hotel they are staying at. It could get Interesting for those ‘tourists’ that are staying in privately owned residences wishing to extend their visa exempt stay.

Don’t stress too much, I carried my old passport (with my visa in it) along with my new passport for several months before immigration put a stamp in my new passport linking my old passport number/visa. They’re correct it when you go to renew. Just carry both for now.

Careful not to confuse a visa obtained from an external consulate and an extension to stay from internal Thai immigration.. an extension to stay never comes with exit/re-entry permissions. It's a common misconception.

@Tod ********
It seems like they are slowly standardising enforcement across the country?

Terry Nicholls with an extension to stay you need a re-entry permit (single or multi) in order to leave Thailand and re-enter. You self-file a TM30 if your landlord or house master hasn't done, or won't do it.

I've got to go this week, I'm going self-file a TM30 anyway (if my landlady still hasn't/won't do it). What did they mean about the single entry - you have to apply for a single or a multi re-entry permit if you are on an extension to stay?
