Hi, Is it possible make an application to immigration for a one year extension to stay based on marriage to a Thai national if I’m currently on a non immigrant b multi? I’m seem to recall that it’s been said that you have to exit and return on a non O visa before application? I had a solid plan to do this within a workable timeframe but my employers Lawyer seems to think that I can go straight for an extension to stay? I have all the other documentation/funds in place so that’s not an issue.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The questioner is seeking clarification on whether they can apply for a one-year extension to stay in Thailand based on marriage to a Thai national, while currently holding a Non-Immigrant B multi-entry visa. There is confusion regarding whether it's necessary to exit Thailand and re-enter on a Non-O visa before applying for this extension. Comments suggest that it may depend on the specific type of Non-B visa held, with some indicating the need for an exit, while others mention the possibility of applying directly for an extension based on marriage.

Are you on a year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa from a thai consulate in another country where you bounce out and back in every 90 days to get a new 90 day stamp
OR
are you on a year long extension (and a re-entry permit) from the immigration office?
I certainly would wring as much time out of the visa you have now as you can. In fact after you get the last 90 day entry stamp you could even get the 60 day "visit thai family" extension on it for 1900baht at the immigration office because you're married to a thai. BUT I do believe you're gonna hafta go back to a thai consulate and get a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage (easily gotten from Vientiane or Savannakhet with minimal documentation) before you can apply for a yearly extension of stay.
Thank you for confirming this. I had/have a plan A mapped out for doing a final bounce close to expiry (as advised before) to push it to the 15 months total time on my Non Imm B Multi. My employers Lawyer (who is dealing with my WP) has just confused matters then. She was also unaware that I’m no longer eligible to renew my current Non Imm B Multi. It seems that the information here is more up to date than theirs. Thanks again for this.
That would be a year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa from a thai consulate then :/
Unless I am totally mistaken you cannot apply for a yearly extension based on marriage off that visa.
It is no problem to change the reason for an extension from one based on employment to one based on marriage because all you're doing is changing the reason for it
BUT you're not here on ANY extension :(
I have not seen someone on a multi-entry B VISA <- from a thai consulate outside the country who bounces every 90 days be able to apply for a new extension based on marriage off of one.
If you're on an actual Non Immigrant B visa and doing border runs every 90 days I would say no, but if you are on the Extension of Stay based on working you can cancel this Extension of Stay and apply for a new Extension of Stay based on Marriage.
Yes Robert I’m on a Non Imm B Multi. The Lawyer is in possession of all my documents and says we can ‘make marriage visa’ I remembered the advice on here and have questioned it via email (waiting for a reply).
