Thailand DTV Visa Approved – Here’s How I Did It 🇹🇭

Just got approved for the Digital Nomad (DTV) visa and wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else. I applied from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, giving myself about two weeks before I’d need to leave — and thankfully it worked out.

What I submitted:

Since they only allow one PDF per category, I combined multiple things smartly. Here’s what I submitted:

• UK Ltd company incorporation doc (I contract through my own business)

• Bank statement (1 month)

• Passport photo

• Client invoices

• A PDF showing my experience and portfolio

• A signed letter stating I don’t intend to work for Thai clients or companies

Financials — mine weren’t perfect:

Most of my money was in Trading 212, which isn’t considered a proper bank. The day before applying, I moved funds to my Barclays account and included:

• A screenshot of the transfer

• A brief explanation

• A summary of my other accounts

I also added a sponsorship letter from my dad, with his bank statement and ID, just as a fallback.

After submission, they asked for:

• Photos of all passport pages

• A company overview (I just created a basic one with my intro, mission, and services)

Putting all the passport photos into one PDF was a bit of a pain, but I managed it using a command-line tool on my Mac to compress and merge them.

Accommodation:

I listed an Airbnb address for the application, not my actual long-term stay (which isn’t TM30-registered). I now have a short stay booked at a TM30-registered place for when my friend visits, and I’ll use that for my 90-day report.

Final Result: Approved

No interview, no major issues — just a few extra docs and a little prep. If your finances are a bit outside the box like mine, don’t panic — just explain things clearly and cover your bases.

Happy to answer questions or share general guidance if it helps someone else!

DTV approved in Ho Chi Minh!

I meant to post this earlier, but I’ve been traveling by bus and things got hectic—sorry for the delay!

Application submitted: Late night on March 11

I submitted documents including a Vietnamese investment account (not a stock trading account but a foreign investment account) with approx. 700,000 THB.

I included a bank balance certificate and 6 months of transaction history, showing an average of 350,000 –400,000 BHT and topped up to 700,000 THB a week before applying.

I also submitted Airbnb booking documents in Vietnam and my passport stamp showing entry into Vietnam.

March 13 (morning): I was asked to submit additional documents

They wanted to know about my income or how I plan to sustain myself in Thailand, and requested a full copy of my passport.

I responded within 3 hours with another bank account holding over 500,000 THB (balance certificate only),

and mentioned my YouTube channel with around 2,000 subscribers to show how I could sustain myself.

I also had a lot of travel stamps in my passport from a bus trip across Southeast Asia last year, so I explained each one just in case they got suspicious.

March 18: Visa approved!

April 1: I entered Thailand via Mukdahan from Savannakhet and received a 180-day stamp without any questions.

I applied with Muay Thai Fever in Chiang Mai under the "soft power" category.

I actually visited them in person back in February, checked out their facilities, and talked with the manager. They were super helpful and quick with paperwork. I highly recommend them!

Bonus tip:

If you fail in hcmc, don’t go to Hanoi.

Instead, take a 3,4-hour bus to Can Tho—weirdly, it's still under Hanoi’s jurisdiction, but many people have better luck there.

Good luck everyone!

When it changes from pending document check to pending approval does that usually mean it will be approved?

I’m planning to apply for the DTV this year as a UK citizen online via the London embassy while I’m at home in the UK and have two questions:

1. What should I use for “document indicating current location” to show I am in the UK?

2. Once the visa is granted (hopefully!), is there any stipulation about travelling direct from home country (UK) to Thailand? I’m asking because I was thinking about travelling first to Eastern Europe for some weeks and then onwards to Thailand.

Thank you for your help and advice!

I applied at the Vancouver Canada location and they requested documents to please upload proof of leaving Thailand. They had previously asked me to upload proof of travel.

I booked a bus to Cambodia on the date I submitted/stated I was departing. It was under 180 days.

I bought a 5 year Thai botany soft power course. They issued me a tourist visa valid from now until the day I said I was departing. I’m SO frustrated. This was my second DTV application.

Has anyone experienced this? And will it impact my ability to apply a 3rd time for the DTV?

Edits: I’m a Canadian citizen, physically in Vancouver Canada now and was when I submitted my application.

I originally applied for LTR-T WFT which is currently pending.

Impatiently waited 2 months for LTR so I applied for DTV too
