Easiest to do it in Thailand but you may want to try a one year education Visa first to see if that works for you instead of putting all that money out there and then finding it doesn't work for you.

No consulates are giving dependent visas for kids so don't worry if they're all under 15 you won't have any problems at all.

It's a Ministry of Foreign Affairs problem and immigration don't care about kid's overstaying. It's just another stamping that passport which will disappear in a few years when they get a new passport.

Any visas can be scam visas even retirement visas old men! If you're not going to immigration yourself, in your own province then you're getting a scam visa.

So please shut up about dodgy education visas!

Make sure to get a visa and advice from people in the province you are planning to live in.

Yes the visas you are talking about work all over the country but look locally and have backup and support locally.

No. I got mine and many others doing my course are older than me. In Chiang Mai.

It really depends on what province you live in as to options for studying.

@Chris ******
do exactly what Chris says but you actually only need to get the OA visa in Canada and the day before it expires you leave Thailand and come back with another year Visa stamp on entry. Every time you enter throughout that first year you will get a one-year stamp.

There's no need to put any money in the bank in this first 2 years. If you want to travel after you get the last year long extension you can just go down and get a single or multiple reentry permit depending on your requirements.

When the two years are up there's plenty of options for staying longer and it's at this time you put the money in the bank if you want to stay. Actually you put the money in 2-3 months before your last stamp expires.

Then to change over to the long-term in country Visa, leave Thailand and come back after the final expiry date, you will get 30 days and as soon as you arrive go to immigration to change over to the non-o retirement Visa.

I used to do it 5 times a year. Every 10 weeks, it took me under 1 minute on my phone when I was on the throne. It's not rocket science. Username , password, passport number and nationality. Tick, tick scroll submit.

has some good information about longer term visas for Thailand.

Shipping the laptop to American might be okay but when it comes back from America you may encounter some issues with customs and duty.
