Trying to sanity check my plans- I'm about to retire from the (US) military, planning on moving over to Bangkok and attending university on GI Bill. I know it's no problem to get my own Ed visa through the school, but the school I'm planning on attending is saying they (and others) don't provide sponsorship for family members.

Would my wife and son (14) not be able to accompany me via non-O immigrant visa?

We are planning on enrolling him into one of the international schools, but prob not until we're settled and have things figured out a little better, maybe the second school year in country- so getting him an Ed visa and putting my wife on as the caretaker doesn't help.

DTV for wife, with son as dependent? Is that a viable plan?

I am looking to talk with a visa agent for some clarification/advice.

I would get my own DTV, but I *want* to attend university, and it's my understanding that the schools will push me onto their own Ed visa.

Thank you

I am 55 and preparing to move to Thailand in a few months on a retirement visa and I have a school age child. (14 yrs old) From what I have been reading my child would need an ED visa and attend Thai school for long term stay which is very pricey. Also when she turns 20 she would have to leave unless she had a DTV or education Visa which she would not be able to do obtain. What would be our other options besides leaving her in the states with family?

Looking to move my family of 8 and possibly mother in law to Bangkok in summer 2026. Give me some advice please.

We currently homeschool but are very open to the education visa for our children. Ages 18(interested in Culinary), 14,10,8,4,1. What would be the best option for such a big family?

We don’t have the baht requirement for us all to be on DTV., only myself would cover the Baht requirements .

My children are US Passport holders and their mom. I’m a Jamaican Passport holder . Would the requirement make a bid difference ?

Also, has anyone done a retirement visa. My mother is 80 on a fixed income. Any advice on that.

We are a family on a DTV visa, currently in Thailand. Can our son enroll to elementary international school without changing his DTV visa to EDV ( educational ) visa?

Hi there,

I’d love to ask for some advice about job options for my husband. He’s on a marriage visa and is trying to decide whether to find a remote job based in the US (most of those won’t allow him to stay in Thailand long-term), or look for work here in Thailand as a foreigner.

He has a master’s degree in biology from one of the UCs (University of California), but doesn’t have a teaching credential beyond TA experience. Would teaching biology at an international school be possible for him? We’re based in Korat.

Any advice or recommendations would be really appreciated! 🙏💛

Me (primary applicant) and my family are on DTV workcation visa. It mentions clearly that we can't work in Thailand. However, my daughter will be school going soon. Can she study in Thailand as a normal visa holder or any limitations in DTV? Will she be admitted in public schools (I am ok with her learning Thai language) or shall I only opt for international ones?

Hello, we are new to Chiang Mai, have been here for 9 weeks. I’m here with my husband and two kids, our kids are enrolled in an international school and will be getting ED visas soon. Through that, my husband and I can attain Guardian visas for the school year. We are unfamiliar with the process of applying for Guardian visas and will need to leave Thailand soon to reset our tourist visas while we are in the process of applying for them. My kids have appointment on November 3rd to change their tourist visas over to ED visas. At that point, we assume we can start the Guardian visas process. We were also told we would each need to have 486,000 baht each in a Thai bank account. We were also told we may need to have our kids’ birth certificates notarized, which we don’t have the original copies here with us so would not be able to do. Could anyone recommend a good Thai Bank and any advice regarding the original birth certificates? Could my husband and I leave every 2-3 months to reset our tourist visas? Is that an option for staying here long term?
