Approved in Hanoi! (US Passport - DTV Workcation Visa based on Amazon Seller Account)

Sharing my experience in case it helps someone:

I came to Hanoi specifically to apply for the Thailand DTV visa. On my last entry to Thailand about 3 months ago, immigration pulled me aside and asked why I visit so often and why I stay for 2 months at a time. I explained I was just a tourist who loves Thailand, but that didn’t convince them. The officer asked to see my funds, then warned me: “This time I let you in, but next time you can’t use the free visa. You must apply for a visa.”

So, here I am.

I arrived in Hanoi with a 10-day plan. Because my return ticket was for 10 days later, the Vietnamese e-visa I received was also only 10 days. That gave me zero buffer in case Thailand asked for extra documents, which definitely stressed me out.

I applied for the DTV on Sat, Nov 22, and for 4 full days it stayed at “Pending Documents Check.” I emailed the embassy, no reply, but two hours later the status suddenly changed to “Pending Approval.” It stayed there for 2 more days.

By that point, I had only 2 days left on my Vietnam visa, so I went in person to the Thai Embassy in Hanoi to ask about the status. They simply told me: “Still processing. Please wait.”

Two hours after that… Approved. The confirmation and documents were sent to my email.

So, I applied On Nov 22 and received approval on Nov 27, all together it took 5 full days but only 4 Business days, or 3 Business days if you don't count the first Business day which was Monday Nov 24.

Documents I submitted:

3-month checking account statement.

Amazon Seller Central account screenshot.

Amazon 1099-K.

IRS Schedule C (Profit or Loss from Business).

Screenshot of Amazon reviews.

That’s all they needed, no extra requests.

Good luck, everyone! Hope this helps someone 🙏

Can someone please clarify...

I am currently on a Business Visa (sorry if wrong terminology) and I want to transition to a retirement visa.

Is it correct that my company cancels my Non-B and I then apply for a Non-O, or something else?

What is the time limit between business visa cancellation and retirement visa application?

Anything else I should know that is unique to this transition?

TIA 🙏

Has anyone canceled a DTV then to apply for a business visa with work permit? My Thai friend wants to hire and partner with me for a position and is offering a work permit.

I heard it is possible to apply for a dtv visa if we already have a Thai business. A business visa + dtv visa would do the trick as long as we don’t sell in Thailand. Is there someone who knows about it ? Any experience ?

Anyone have experience transitioning from Business Visa to DTV?

Any complications around it? I know you have to cancel the work permit before applying but just want to make sure I understand any complications.

Thank you!

Hi guys, I posted earlier but for some reason I cannot comment on it so I’m gonna make another post.

So basically, I run an e-commerce business that generates around €50k revenue a year over the past few years but I am putting most of that back into the business as opposed to paying myself a wage. Otherwise I have multiples of the required 500 K in my savings account.

From some of the comments it appears that may not paying myself steadily from the company won’t be a problem as long as I have the savings.

I am wondering, what document I will need to prepare with regard to the above for the portfolio? I will be going through the embassy in London. I’d hate for my application to be rejected and lose the application fee.

Hi, I just got my DTV approved, somehow was quite stressed because I had no idea that I was required to cancel my current business visa and work permit, since I had a friend who did it that way when DTV was launched, did not think about that at all (things were probably more relaxed at the start)

I guess I was lucky they did not ask for full passport pages copies ..

Now my question is : what should I do at immigration when arriving to Thailand ? My initial plan was that I could simply stamp in with the new DTV, and then immediately proceed to cancel my work permit at my local immigration ..

Does that sound like the right thing to do ? Do I risk to get into trouble at immigration check for not canceling my business visa and work permit prior to applying for DTV ?

Thanks for any informations :)

Subject: Self-Employment Letter for Destination Thailand Visa (Workcation Category)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I, [NAME], am the sole founder, owner, and operator of [BUSINESS NAME], a well-established enterprise registered in the United States ([BUSINESS ID]). I established the company single-handedly in [FOUNDING YEAR], and over the past two decades, it has evolved into a robust operation based in [LOCATION], delivering top-tier services to a diverse, international clientele, with all revenue sourced exclusively from non-Thai markets.

I am applying for the Destination Thailand Visa to manage my business remotely from Thailand, drawing on my extensive expertise in entrepreneurship and remote leadership.

As the visionary who built [BUSINESS NAME] from scratch, I oversee all critical aspects remotely, including financial management (such as bill payments and credit transactions), staff compensation through secure digital platforms, innovative marketing to expand my global client base, and comprehensive operational coordination.

These duties are performed entirely online using advanced tools like email, cloud-based systems, and virtual communication, ensuring I maintain full control without any need for a physical presence in Thailand or engagement in local work.

On-site daily operations in [LOCATION], such as client scheduling and equipment upkeep, are expertly handled by my brother, [BROTHER'S NAME], who serves as the on-site manager, guaranteeing smooth functionality while I focus on strategic oversight from afar.

My income is derived solely from [BUSINESS NAME], with regular weekly transfers of [WEEKLY AMOUNT] from the business account to my personal account at [BANK NAME], yielding an annual income of approximately [ANNUAL AMOUNT].

Additionally, I maintain a substantial personal savings balance of [SAVINGS AMOUNT] at [BANK NAME], as evidenced by the enclosed bank statements, tax returns, and supporting financial documents.

These resources affirm my financial independence and ability to sustain myself during my stay in Thailand.

I solemnly affirm that my professional activities fully comply with Thai immigration regulations, as all income originates outside Thailand from non-Thai sources, and I will not participate in any local employment, business ventures, or services within Thailand.

I am fully committed to adhering to all visa conditions and am prepared to submit additional documentation, such as my business registration or further financial proof, if required.

Thank you for considering my application. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of enriching Thailand's dynamic workcation community while continuing to expand my business remotely. Please feel free to contact me at [EMAIL] or [PHONE] for any additional information.

Sincerely,
