Chiang Mai always applied this "under consideration". Other places I did extensions in the past, like Udon Thani or Krabi did not. I know one is supposed to do the extension where one is staying. That is why I am inquiring now about Chiang Rai, as I may visit there when the extension is due.

Yes. The way you describe it is a valid workaround for the stupid STV rules. Just be aware that a good amount of Thai people don’t even have that Thai Tax ID number, as it only becomes relevant for people with income above a certain threshold and who actually pay income taxes. Most tend to like to avoid that. Best not to bother with the whole STV altogether, if possible.

If they extend the covid extensions again - which is highly likely IMHO, you could just go on the last day of your current stamp - in order to not lose any days.

Driving working Myanmar may work. Driving through requires an official / expensive escort - always did. Whatever this stupid rule is for.

Not at this time, no. I don’t know about India / Myanmar border crossing. I would think closed. But certainly the Myanmar / Thai border is closed. Or would you want to go through China and Laos? Closed as well.

Oh. Ok. Did not thought about that. Hardly ever heard someone do it that way before. You still would need land borders to be opened. I think currently, they are not. ✌️

I wish it was possible. Would want to go the reverse way soon. Driving from Thailand to India.

Even if Thai land borders were open, did you watch the news about what is up in Myanmar?

A valid drivers license in a foreign country means (most of the times) either a) a drivers license of that country, or b) you national drivers license in conjunction with an International Drivers Permit. It is a common misconception that a US drivers license on its own would be valid in Thailand - at least that is my take on this subject.
