OK friends of SIAM, here goes : I am planning to apply for the STV visa in Australia for 90 days in Thailand, with possibility of 1 or 2 extensions. The Embassy sent this reply to my question whether I can stay at my friends condo , because they are asking for a fully paid hotel booking on the application form : " If you wish to stay with someone in Thailand, you will not be eligible for STV visa, unless you can provide lease agreement with the receipt and tax no. from the renter. " I am going to sign an agreement with my friend, who owns the condo, send the money into his account, and give them his tax number. This should satisfy them ??? We shall see!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on applying for a Special Tourist Visa (STV) from Australia while planning to stay at a friend's condo in Thailand. The Thai Embassy requires a fully paid hotel booking for STV applications, but the user plans to circumvent this by providing a signed lease agreement with their friend along with the necessary payment evidence and tax number. Comments from the community discuss the feasibility of this approach and share personal experiences regarding similar situations.
A friend of mine (from Norway) was successful in obtaining an STV by submitting a letter of invitation from their Thai girlfriend. The letter supplied included her address and phone number only. The letter was very brief.
If you have a contract with your name on it and the necessary numbers and autographs they dont need to see the payment. Since you'll be paying monthly and not 6months at a time. At least this was the case with me in the Netherlands.
I just got the same thing in return for my STV application, I am also staying at a friends. Have you received any response back on this yet? I may try to do the same thing?
Yes. The way you describe it is a valid workaround for the stupid STV rules. Just be aware that a good amount of Thai people don’t even have that Thai Tax ID number, as it only becomes relevant for people with income above a certain threshold and who actually pay income taxes. Most tend to like to avoid that. Best not to bother with the whole STV altogether, if possible.
