What documents are needed for the DTV visa application at the Thai Consulate in Hanoi?

DTV approved in Hanoi. Easy process, courteous staff.

Made an appointment online though it doesn't seem to matter, there's been almost no people there the few times I've been.

Docs they wanted were:

* 6 months of bank statements

* employment contract (the staff made me believe it needs to explicitly state "remote work" - mine didn't but apparently it's not necessary as it went through)

* apartment lease in Hanoi (a hotel booking would also work) as proof of current location - apparently my physical presence in the embassy or the stamps in my passport weren't proof enough that I'm actually there

* deposit slip for accommodation rental or hotel booking in Thailand

* filled out application (had to write in DTV because it's not yet an actual category on the official visa application :D) and photo

* $340 - I paid attention to give very clean bills, they didn't really check their integrity at all

... That's it. Done in 2 days. Here at least, they look at face value at whatever you submit, there are no deeper checks.

Grab it while it's hot, not sure how long a deal like this can last before it becomes apparent that it's too cheap and too relaxed criteria.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa application process at the Thai consulate in Hanoi is described as easy and efficient, with a quick approval time of two days. Applicants must submit six months of bank statements, an employment contract (not necessarily stating 'remote work'), proof of accommodation in Thailand, a deposit slip, a completed application form (specifying DTV), a recent photo, and a fee of $340. Despite the requirement for certain documents, there seems to be a degree of leniency in their verification process.

Thanks. Great breakdown.

Do you know if it's possible to download the application form, to have it filled out before visit the embassey?

I'm hoping my application in the Thai Embassey in Laos goes as smoothly as yours.

Of course, embassy websites have it

Do you need an employment from a Vietnamese company to qualify or does it matter, can i be based outside Vietnam?
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
This visa has nothing to do with Vietnam. Please read a little bit more about it before asking totally unrelated questions
Mikko **********
If hotel booking is enough or "residency" in Vietnam, then perfect.
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Of course it is, otherwise would be really difficult
Mikko **********
If I dont have to go back to Europe to apply for it, then perfect.
Mikko **********
One DTV related page said one must apply it from the country of origin/where the job is from. I am glad it does not apply.
Alex **********
Thanks for the info. Did they require you to have any documents notarized? Was considering going to Hanoi but think I read they ask for this which I don't know how I could provide without flying home
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Nothing needed to be notarized

Hi, thank you for your review! If you don't mind, did your employment contract/ proof of work/ invoices/ company's registration needed to be notarized by your home country's embassy or some kind of authority?

I am self-employed so I don't have work contract from employer's company / their registration. I only have invoices and my past work as portfolio. Not sure is this will be enough.

If anyone knows anything, would be really helpful. Thank you

ORIGINAL POSTER
Should be enough, no notarization needed in Hanoi

Would a TM30 be in place of the 'deposit slip for accomodation rental or hotel booking in Thailand'?
Tod *********
@Jen ******
no it would not, umm if you have a TM30, you have a lease, or something OR you make a booking and show them and then cancel it once you get the visa
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I see no reason why not
Zarin *******
How much does it costs?

Perhaps read the post more carefully

*deposit slip for accommodation rental or hotel booking in Thailand

This is something that bugs me. Why would a person have accommodation already booked if they don't know if they get a visa in the first place.
Ryan **********
can confirm from my recent DTV approval in Hanoi that I did not need proof of accommodation or flight for that matter
Xavier ***********

I'll also say the tone was leaning more toward "do you happen to have one"

Visa requirements making limited sense is the best we can expect
Andrew *********
They didnโ€™t ask proof of 500k baht?
Robert ********
So it didn't need to show 500k over all the last 6 months?
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Probably just final month bro, but likely depends on which embassy/consulate
Andi ***********
@Andrew ********
The final bank statement shows 500K THB.

Is the 5 year DTV 180 days plus 180 days then leave the country after 6 months for a boarder cross?

Then you get another 180 and 180 days?
Sky *****
@David *******
With 180 day extention, it's only necessary to do an actual visa run once every 360 days. That's my understanding. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
That's what they say

Nope

Has Thailand immigration ever revoked a visa class.. Like the OP suggests... This is too good to last. Have immigration ever revoked and canceled a visa type before?
Alex ********
@John *****
Unlikely to revoke the visas already issued. But likely to make requirements for new visas stricter or stop issuing those all together. Hurry up!
Paul *******
@Alex *******
I think they will separate the remote work category from the soft power one. The former may continue to receive a 5 year visa but the latter will probably be shortened. Just my 2 cents.
James ********
@John *****
unlikely to ever revoke a Thai Visa. Changes in requirements for New Thai Visas can happen.
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Could change/add conditions, fee, strictness, etc. in case this backfires somehow
James ********
@Xavier **********
those who have been issued a 5 year DVT visa will continue to get the same entry each time of 180 Days throughout the 5 years.
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Not disputing that at all my guy, just suggesting haste before they potentially stricten up the application process
James ********
@Xavier **********
the time is NOW to get the DVT visa... IMHO
David ********
Did you have 500k ending balance in each of the 6 months bank statements?
Paul *******
@James *******
HCM along with Kuala Lumpur are moving to the e-visa platform soon. For HCM, this takes place next month. Better for applicants to apply soon otherwise it could be a long wait (up to 30 days I'm told) under the e-visa system.
Paul *******
@James *******
I've read the requirements from several embassies and consulates and they're not specific at all, other than some wanting 6 months worth of statements. I have had a couple of consulates get back to me - HCM seems to be the most user friendly and detailed in terms of their response.
James ********
@Paul ******
Good Luck with your application with them. ๐Ÿ‘
Xavier ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I did but I think not needed, just final month should be good enough
Ryan **********
@David *******
can confirm only current balance matters from my recent experience
James ********
@Xavier **********
it's fine if that Thai Embassy or Consulate will accept one ending month of 500,000 Thai baht. Important to look at the Visa requirements for the Thai Embassy or Consulate website where you will be applying for the DTV visa. There are varied requirements among the Thai Embassy or Consulate websites.
Paul *******
@James *******
Most of them are not very specific even if you ask them. The key point they emphasize is that they need to be able to verify that the funds are in your account when you apply.
James ********
@Paul ******
if you read the posts about getting the DVT visa from various Thai Embassy or Consulates...the financial requirements do vary. In many, what you said would not have been accepted.
