What should I know about the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) Workcation option and requirements?

Does anyone have personal experience with DTV (Destination Thailand Visa)? I'm mainly interested in the Workcation option and proving and verifying that work status. For example, is it enough to just write the portfolio? Because my formal work status will be continuously changing, so I'm looking to make sure that it's not a problem.. or once approved, it's not an issue if the status is still valid?

And the 500 000 THB doesn't have to be in a Thai bank account?

Where can I possibly check? Ask at the Thai consulate in my country?

Thanks for any possible clarification from the more experienced, I've never dealt with any visa before so I'm not familiar with it at all..

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) offers a Workcation option, but applicants need to prove their work status adequately, possibly via a portfolio. It's important to research specific requirements from the Thai embassy in your country, as they may vary. Generally, while many experiences shared indicate that providing proof of self-employment via documents such as letters, portfolios, and bank statements can suffice for approval, it's essential to confirm the specifics related to financial requirements. There are queries about whether the 500,000 THB needs to be in a Thai bank account, which also varies by embassy. Overall, engaging with your local Thai consulate can provide the most accurate information.

Just ask the embassy or consulate - I have a very good experience with the embassy in my country, I called them a couple of times about different visas in the past, and they were always very helpful.

There is a little ambiguity for me when it comes to spouse’s. Do they also have to have 500,000 in the bank?
Andi ***********
@Marvin ******
Many require 500K also for the spouse. You should contact the embassy you will apply from for confirmation.

@Marvin ******
: Depends on which Embassy.

Quick Question: IF I sign up for Muay Thai school and get the visa. Do I have to pay that school for 5 years to keep it valid?
Brandon ************
@Jay *******
To get the visa you barely need anything. No one knows if you will need additional items in the future. It's a brand new visa

@Brandon ***********
immigration may ask you upon reentry or extension. No one knows. My guess is that for “soft” visas, they will.
Ivan ************
@Dave ****
MFA said all you need for reentry is the visa, don't need to show requirements again. For extension in country may need to show requirements, that's up to immigration. This would gel with how other multiple entry visas work.
Dave *****
@Ivan ***********
MFA does not deal with reentries. That is also immigration. So they may ask again.
Ivan ************
@Dave ****
they probably know better than a random person on Facebook and were quite clear that re-entries would not require renewed proof. It's also how every single other multiple entry visa works, the proof is at the point of getting the visa, not at entry.

@Ivan ***********
hope this is the case

the interview at the MoFA did say you do need to show updated evidence while applying for an extension though
Mick *******
@John ******
, when is an extension required ? After 5 years ?
John *******
@Mick ******
after 180 days in country
Mick *******
@John ******
, I see what you're saying John , I'm thinking once the 5 year stamp is on your passport page it's just a matter of going through customs as usual . It's not like the annual extension for the retirement visa . Time will tell I guess
Brandon ************
@John ******
and MFA has nothing to do with extensions
John *******
@Brandon ***********
True, and they have nothing to do with the entry process, but they seemed knowledgeable. Probably more than random expats online
John *******
@Brandon ***********
true, but they don’t live in a bubble and it is a datapoint. So they might not know the final decision, but the point is valid
Brandon ************
There are DOZENS of posts already about this visa. So yes, many people have experience with it. Do the bare minimum of research and look at the embassy website where you want to apply as each embassy sets their own requirements, and they are all different.

The bank account question has been answered a lot of times. Since you can’t apply for this visa in Thailand, it is clear that they don’t expect you to have the funds in a Thai bank account. Since it is a glorified tourist visa, you can’t really even open a Thai bank account in many instances (people find ways around though). You have to prove your employment. If not employed by an employee, you need to show evidence (portfolio, payment slips, tax receipts, etc. they vary by embassy).

And since EVERY embassy has different requirements, unless someone has done the exact thing you want to do at the exact embassy you will use, their experience means nothing to you. So you either search the dozens of existing posts from people to see who has used your embassy, or you ask about your specific embassy and don't ask a generic question that cannot give you any useful information.
