So since I’m already in Thailand it looks like I’ll need to either apply in Malaysia or Cambodia for DTV? As I can not apply for it online.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa can only be applied for through a Thai embassy or consulate outside of Thailand, such as in Malaysia or Cambodia. Applications cannot be made while in Thailand, and the process must comply with the specific regulations of the respective embassy. Additionally, there are inquiries regarding financial proof, specifically whether a bank statement from a foreign account can suffice for the requirement of showing 500,000 baht.

What about the bank statement showing you have atleast 500k baht in your account? Does that mean you can use your current account in your country and not have to open a Thai account?

@Flukie *****
I was informed you can show funds from your own home bank account not a Thai bank account. You have to provide the exchange rate to show the amount is 500, 000 THB.

they will establish their own monthly exchange similar to LTR i would guess. Will be published

Could well be.

@Andrew ********
on the BOI-LTR page the current exchange rates they apply are on the front page. Will most likely be something similar for DTV - their rules

@Andrew ********
you spoke with the embassy?

@Flukie *****
Via a lawyer, I live in Tokyo and the Thai Embassy is closed today due to a national holiday. I have emailed them to confirm. A travel agent also said the same.

@Andrew ********
how is a travel agent going to know this at this point?
Andi ***********
@John *******
Some agents have connections to Embassies and relevant govt depts, know things ahead of time.

although it's not clear yet.

It appears that you have to prove funds in your home country.

As it will be a multientry with no extension in country, there will be no need for money in Thailand.

These details however are not clear yet.

@Flukie *****
correct it not come from a local bank, as you’re supposed to apply for this visa before being in Thailand. If you’re earning income into a Thai bank, you’re probably on a non-b visa already

'Big' visas like this can normally only be applied for in your home country. We'd have to await all the details, but that is my expectation.

@Bart *************
yes true but the biggest LTR you could apply for within Thailand

@Jo *********
LTR categories include actually working for a Thai company.

@Neil *****
yes some do and some don’t.

maybe/maybe not. They are targeting digital nomads. Therefore, digital nomads could already be out of their country (since they are digital nomads).

I wondered that, as I am from the UK but currently working in Oz and between work here and going back to Thailand I'll not be back in the UK for 3-4 months
Bart **************
@Steven ********
but then your country of residence is Australia.

@Bart *************
even though I am only here for work for 4 weeks?
Bart **************
@Steven ********
no I think that's too short. But you know it better than I probably, you know if your registered yourself there or not.

Sometimes you can work around the residence requirement by falsely 'proving' your residence somewhere else. Do you have a temporary address there and are you getting any official mail there (from e.g. employer)? Otherwise we'd have to hope you can apply from other countries than your home one.
Bart **************
@John ******
good point actually. Let's hope they follow that reasoning, too.

Thai officials following reason uhmm 555

@Michael *******
that's also a good point 🤣

Yeah, I feel this will be the case too

"apply online" means nothing.

You cannot apply for the DTV inside of Thailand, you can only apply for it through a Thai embassy or consulate. That means being physically within the country serviced by that Thai embassy and following the process of that Thai embassy. If they've adopted the evisa system you can use that and if not then you apply in person at the embassy.
John *******
@Brandon ***********
The embassy in Cambodia has not adopted the evisa system, so you would apply in person. That being said, their webpage makes no mention of DTV yet.
Brandon ************
@John ******
then they might not offer it. Or they might only offer it to Cambodian residents. I wouldn't waste my time traveling to an embassy that hasn't published guidelines for the visa.

- This visa came out today. It says it is available online and at embassies, but only mention so far is online. Way too soon to go to the embassy. That being said, the Thai embassy is literally across the street, but still not going to go there yet. Going to wait a month. Let them iron out the issues with a new visa.

my money is it will be like multi-entry TR, non-OA etc, can only apply for it in your country of residence.
