Hi, I have successfully applied for a DTV visa for myself and my family. The process was incredibly straightforward, and the consulate staff were very helpful and friendly. ❤🫠

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Schedule an Appointment: Visit the consulate's website to book your appointment. Note that one person can submit the application on behalf of the entire family.

[members only]

💫Prepare Your Documents:

👉Passport

👉Photograph

👉Document indicating current location: just a booking receipt will do

👉Bank Statements: Provide 6 months of bank statements with a minimum balance of 500,000 baht.

👉Employment Contract: Submit your employment contract. If you are a freelancer, include contracts from the past 6 months.

👉Guarantee Letter: Write a letter guaranteeing the support of family members who will accompany you.

👉Proof of Relationship: Include documents that prove your relationship with accompanying family members, such as marriage certificates and birth certificates.

👉Pay the Fee: The application fee is $340 per person.

Wait for Processing: The processing time is typically 2 days.

Everything was smooth and efficient, thanks to the kind and attentive consulate staff.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their successful experience applying for a DTV visa for themselves and their family, detailing the step-by-step process. They highlighted the importance of scheduling an appointment at the Thai consulate, preparing necessary documents including bank statements and proof of relationship, and the application fee. The thread also addresses various questions from other users regarding document requirements, employment contract stipulations, and whether one person can submit multiple applications. Additional discussions clarified that the balance requirement is only for the final amount at the time of application rather than over the preceding months and emphasized that you can combine bank accounts to meet the financial criteria.

Thanks for sharing!

May I ask if you know whether you need to be married if you apply for your partner? I’m a single father to a 4 year old boy and have a partner that isn’t his mother, nor that I’m married to.

Also, you can apply from any location outside of Thailand? I’m a European citizen but currently in Asia.

Thanks again!

Hi, you will need a marriage certificate if your partner is applying as a dependent. If you don’t have one, I suggest applying for a DTV visa for her as a student instead. In this case, prepare two separate sets of documents. You can submit the application from any location outside of Thailand.

@Han ****
thanks for your reply! But do you need to submit with a consulate? I thought you can submit directly with the Thai authorities online? I’m a Swedish citizen but have my company in Hong Kong, if I need to apply via embassy/consulate, do you know which country I should apply from?

@Daniel ************
you are confusing a couple things

IF you are back in YOUR COUNTRY you can apply online using the eVisa online website, however if you are in S/E Asia and using a consulate in a nearby country you GO THERE and apply in person

you cannot get 'spouse' DTV if you're not married, you COULD get one for your child though

I chose to submit my application at the Ho Chi Minh City Consulate because I had previously submitted documents there when applying for a work permit. The consulate staff were very friendly and left a positive impression on me. Additionally, it was an opportunity for me to return to Vietnam and enjoy Vietnamese food. Other than that, there were no special reasons.😅

Honestly, I'm not sure about online submissions. I applied at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where I scheduled my appointment online and then went to the consulate to submit hard copies, as they required them. However, it seems that many people have successfully submitted their applications online from other countries. I recommend checking other posts about the DTV visa in the group for more insights. Since requirements may vary by location, it’s a good idea to email the embassy or consulate in the countries you're considering. This way, you can choose the option that is most suitable and convenient for you. I also reached out to the consulate via email to confirm the required documents before my visit.😁

Thanks for sharing. Did you need to submit an application form? I can't find out if this is required but it does say an application form needs to be submitted 2 weeks prior to the appointment on their website but not sure this applies to the DTV. Thanks

I prepared all the required documents and brought a photo to attach to the application form, which I’ll get directly from the consulate.

For the appointment, I just booked it through the link on their website and chose the earliest available date (on Monday). I didn't hear anything about needing to submit any forms two weeks before the appointment.

@Han ****
Its on their website but it seems that it's not really adhered to. Thanks for your comment!

@Tim **********
, you know this is the post about application at the RTCG Ho Chi Minh City, right?
Tim ***********
@Ellie ******
Yes I read English 🙂 On the HCMC embassy site, it says to submit your application 2 weeks prior to your travel date, that is why I ask the question to someone who is posting about her experience at the HCMC embassy.
Jessy ******
Hi, did you provide the 500 000 bath for each person as well?
Daniel *************
@Han ****
the consulate said this? Maybe I’ll try to apply from Vietnam :)
Jessy ******
@Daniel ************
no no. It was in israel

@Jessy *****
ah ok, so what did you do in the end? it seems so strange that they have different requirements. I’m considering filing in Ho Chi Minh because of what
@Han ****
experienced. Would fly in as a tourist and file from there.

i didn’t do it yet I’m flying on few days so I’ll see later

they told me too but they want 2 million bath on it I have 3 dependents 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Jessy *****
you were asked that at the thai consulate in HCMC?
Jessy ******
@Tod ********
no sorry for the confusion it was in Israel
Tod *********
@Jessy *****
and that highlights exactly just how much variance and disparity there are between consulates and how much power they have to set their own criteria 😕

thank you very much for posting
@Han ****
. can I ask you two quick questions... are you Vietnamese citizen or did you apply as a foreigner? and when you said one person can submit application, that still means each person fills out an application and pays the visa fee, correct?
Han *****

@Chris ********
I’m a Vietnamese citizen, but since I don’t live in Vietnam, I applied as a foreigner. For the "document indicating current location" section, I submitted a hotel booking for where I’m staying. One person can submit the application on behalf of everyone, but each person still needs to fill out their own form, attach a photo, provide proof of relationship to the main applicant, and pay the $340 fee per person.
Đặng ****
@Han ****
Hi Han Thi, may I check how would you apply as a foreigner? Is it different from applying as a Vietnamese citizen? And How does embassy know you don't live in Vietnam. Thank you in advance for your clarification!
Han *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Đặng ***
😅 I don’t think it makes much difference, nor do I believe the Embassy or Consulate will be too concerned about whether you’re currently in Vietnam or not. Since I haven’t lived in Vietnam for a long time, I don’t have a long-term rental contract or recent bills paid in Vietnam. If you’re living in Vietnam, you can submit a recent utility bill or your rental contract for the "indicating current location" section (I submitted a hotel booking). That’s the only difference.
Chris *********
@Han ****
thank you. some other embassies require employment documents are certified by the person's embassy so I wonder if that is true for Vienam. your employer is not Vietnamese, I assume, so probably there is no such requirements for foreign employment
Han *****

@Chris ********
Yes, exactly. I work for a company outside of Vietnam, so I just printed out my contract for them. If you’re a freelancer, you can simply compile your contracts from the past 6 months. If you want to be extra thorough, you could also include your work history. That’s just my suggestion. They only requested one of these documents, and there’s no need to have the contract certified. 😊
Chris *********
@Han ****
Awesome. Thank you again and enjoy your time in Thailand! I've been here for a year if you need any advice or have questions

@Han ****
. Was the balance over 500k for the entire 6 months or just the final ending balance? This is important for people who have moved/collated their money from various places to show in one account for the purposes of visa application.

just the final ending balance 😊

Hey, did you require an ending balance of 500,000baht every month for 3 months? Or just at the time of applying?

@Rudi *****************
no, the final number being 500,000 baht is fine

Yes, I believe so. I used USD. I'm not entirely sure what exchange rate they rely on, so I checked it on Google and added a little extra, just to be on the safe side.
Jeroboam *********
Thanks for the update. So you need to have had a balance of 500,000 plus for each of the previous 6 months? I wonder if you can combine bank accounts, any idea?
Đặng ****
@Jeroboam ********
i messaged Thai embassy in Hanoi on Facebook, they mentioned can combine bank account statements
Jeroboam *********
@Đặng ***
great. Thank you.

@Jeroboam ********
I think can combine. You just need the total amount in all bank accounts at the time of application submission to be 500k, and that will be sufficient.

Do you mind sharing what the Guarantee Letter to support the accompanying family members looked like? I am applying next week and have two dependents. Thanks!
