Hello everyone!

I just got my DTV approved at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane. I applied on Monday and just received it today (Wednesday).

It was very, very easy and I highly recommend applying for it there!

All you need is the following:

- Visa Application Form (with 2 x pictures)

- Passport copy of biodata page

- Document showing your current location (driver's license)

- Visa fee of 10,000 THB

- 6-month official bank statement showing a minimum of 500,000 THB

Proof of Purpose of Visit:

- For remote workers: Certificate of Employment, Employment Contract, personal tax return, and payslips (if applicable)

- Professional portfolio showing your business, including your resume/company profile and screenshots/photos of your business

Cover Letter including:

- Cover page and table of contents

- Self-introduction: name, age, passport number

- Statement of purpose

- Details about your company and the nature of the business

- Explanation of your workflow: how your freelance career operates and how you work remotely

- Assurance that you will not take away jobs from locals or take on local clients

But most importantly you need to have an appointment before going there which can be done online (I had booked mine a month in advance).

You can already go early in the morning and drop you application, regardless of your queue number.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Best of luck to all of you!

why do you need 500,000 THB in your bank account? That is $12,000 USD, is that RIGHT?

In Vientiane, 500,000 Baht needs to be sitting in your account for a minimum of 3 months before you apply. Most other consulates are fine with funds recently transferred, but not Vientiane or Savannakhet. If you happen to have a healthy account balance and already had this amount or more in your account prior to the announcement of this visa you can apply in Vientiane now. Otherwise, you'll need to wait until 3 months have elapsed since the minimum daily closing balance exceeds 500,000.

Or do what most others are doing and apply in another jurisdiction.

Vientiane isn't the easiest but fine as long as you have

0 Baht banked for a minimum of 3 months.

Generally, Taipei and Jakarta are the easiest to deal with in the region. Australia may be even easier but a longer flight and more expensive. Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh are fairly straightforward too.

Wondering about this 6 month bank statement. Do they need a proof i have had 500,000 TBH sitting on my account for 6 months? OR does it need to just add up to 500,000 TBH... I dont want to share the history of my account

Yes that's fine. However at Vientiane, it needs to be 3 months. At many others, you can transfer or deposit the funds just days before or even the same day you apply.

If forms aren't available on the site, you have to get them in person at the consulate and fill them out there.

I was referring to Laos only. Most other consulates around the world allow you to apply with a bank balance of min 500K Baht in your account for a month or even less.

Welll, someone just posted (applying from embassy i am going to apply from as well) that it was just a statement from the bank that this person has X amount on his savings account so I guess this really depends on the Embassy..

Thanks for this. I just booked an appointment.

May I know is the Cover Letter part of the requirements? I don’t see it anywhere else. Is your certificate of employment and employment contract a single document or different?

@Gobi ******
You can submit an employment contract OR employment certificate (usually only 1 page). A cover letter usually isn't necessary.

Good to hear you found it easy. Many have found Laos to be difficult to deal with, with many rejections. You had a balance of 500k for the 6 months?

Yes I heard it is one of the easiest from speaking to lawyers and other consultants. I have a balance of 500 k for the 6 months . I have both Thai and Swiss accounts. On my Thai account I didn’t have 500k for the 6 months, but I was able to prove this with my Swiss account (in French).

I do not have enough in a regular bank account, but a sub account (TERM DEPOSIT), or here in Canada we call it a CD (certificate of deposit), I have a large amount of money, this is cashable, so hoping this will be OK??
